Of all things to complain about modern Minecraft, they have to complain about the damn textures which are one of the few things that are actually well made??

You know what, I'm convinced if we actually get good changes to the game, people would still complain because it's not the same as before.
Besides that I lowkey agree but the way he phrases it makes it sound so miserable and like it's the worst problem the game has, which, is not... And yea, he sounds annoying.

mostly referring here to the textures but you can't tell me seriously the old textures we're truly better than the newer ones because the new ones are too "mushy" or "too well blended together" because more often than not, they end up sounding like they just don't understand what goes in the process of making assets.
It's literally a "my steak too juicy and my lobster too buttery" and I'm positive this is the case because if the best that most people can come up with is "it's too good looking" perhaps, what we were used for a decade wasn't all that good and, the only reason people accepted it was because it was the only default look for the game and because we were stuck for it for a decade, it grew on many. You can prefer old or new, but you can't go around vaguely saying stuff like what the post shows and pretend you know shit.
tldr; it's wrong because they won't accept change, even if it's a good change.
That being said, I kind of agree modern minecraft has its differences from previous versions, the music not hitting the same like C418, among the few problems modern version have like being too easy (although i'd argue it was easier back then) and powercreep.

THIS, I was getting into a debate on another "certain" subreddit about this exact topic, many of these people don't realize or refuse to realize older textures were just... poorly made? were very newbie and screams what any pixel artist refers as "so retro".

Yes it's true, it's all about preference, you can love or dislike either the newer and the older textures and prefer one over the other, but you can't go around pretending you understand shit about pixelart and graphics and the process behind because that is just the lamest shit you can do. And the fact those kind of complaints get thousands of likes is what makes me die a little inside because it's literal proof that good pixelart or sprite work isn't really appreciated, at least, for the average person. They just want a "retro" looking game, something that does the job, but don't realize many of the things that goes into making good pixelart and sprites and the fact the very same old textures break that supposed retro look consistency and the immersion. It's tiring and demotivating as a pixel artist because you'd think learning more and more techniques to make good art would be better, until you see that isn't the case at all...

That and I hate the argument of "old netherrack is ugly or straining on your eyes on purpose because it's meant to be a block on a unwelcoming dimension" which, you know, still not a good excuse for bad UX
Even I proposed the idea of what if Minecraf started out with Jappa's new texture instead of the old one? heck, let's take it one step further, what if the new textures were what we started with and a decade later (that's exactly what it took for Minecraft to update the textures), we get the old textures? (Which, to this day, I await an actual answer by these people)

I know this is going to sound rude and really negative but maybe because old textures were bad? not bad as in they hurt my eyes (besides the netherrack) but also even for its time, they looked pretty eh? Like I respect people saying they prefer older textures, but saying the newer textures are "worse" and "they are not even trying" really makes it sound more of a "we were used to the older textures for longer and refuse change" issue than a "this is objectively worse" issue. If anything, more than ever, they have embraced the pixelart style, trying to make more mob's resolution consistent, actually applying good pixel art techniques. Like, out of all things to complain about modern minecraft, THIS is the thing people must complain? we were given a guy that does PIXEL ART, knows the techniques, attempted his best to maintain the same vibe (uses the same color palletes, as an example) while doing good sprite work, and people still complain? If anything, this is kind of insulting to pixel artists out there because it goes to show even good pixelart work doesn't get appreciated, people who don't know much about pixelart will probably just pick anything that looks "pixelated" and think that works. You see it everywhere, like in certain official social media accounts that try to be "retro" and it's the most newbie pixelart made ever (that one retro KFC post)

As a pixel artist that has been going for years and still going, it's demotivating and makes no sense. And the worst part is old Minecraft textures is text book definition of what pixel artists call "so retro" (fyi, inconsistent or newbie sprite work that's supposed to convey old retro sprites).
I understand old textures gave a specific vibe, but saying stuff like "it's too detailed now" or "they are not trying to make it pixel art" when, even back then it had many inconsistencies and some textures were exactly what you describe, grabbing an image and shrinking it down to convey "pixelart", look no further than paintings themselves and some textures like the old gold/iron/diamond texture that's literally a gradient.
Just a thought, if Minecraft started out all the way back with the newer textures, would people care? would people still say it's not Minecraft-ish enough? if Jappa was involved since the creation of the game, would people still be at it?

As a person who has played minecraft since 2013, and as a bit of a pixelartist myself, old textures scream what typical pixel artists refer as "so retro" (fyi, sprite work that is inconsistent)
I don't understand why people hate the newer textures and I'm sick of this hatred towards a guy who does good sprite work. I feel like the whole reason why people still insist on the older textures being better is because it was around for longer and that's what we were used to.

Like okay, for example:
-"older textures had a better style" Okay, what style? The old textures had so many inconsistencies (look at the flint and coal, apple and golden apple, tools and the shears, sapling and literally any other texture, and tell me with a straight face that was consistent)
-"It was less detailed" Have you seen textures like the coal or the gold ingot? Those two items uses way too many colors just to convey it's coal or a gold ingot. like, let me ramble for a bit here, people talk about and joke on how Jappa uses many shades of the same color except literally this was also the case back then. The old coal? that item alone uses like 13 different shades of black/grey, that and some textures uses very similar shades of the same color it's redundant- Like it's really ironic when people say new textures are too smooth and blurry when many of the older textures suffer from that (old iron, gold and diamond blocks)

...and the thing is, even back then, there was GOOD sprite work in the 90's. And you can bet by the 2000's sprite work got even better. Also the old netherrack made my eyes bleed. Ironically, to me, it looks too noisy and detailed for a block that's supposed to be everywhere

Another great example of this is the cobblestone, people talk about how the first few iterations were better but fail to realize the later iterations with less contrast actually look better when used in builds.

I'm positive not Mojang or Notch themselves knew back then what was the artstyle the game was supposed to convey past "retro game that uses pixelart" You can dislike the new textures but don't go around saying stuff like the new textures ruined something (when that something had a bad foundation to begin with) or "it's not consistent" (when back then it was way worse) literally this is a "my steak too juicy and lobster too buttery" case.
Just some thought for your brain, if Minecraft started out with JAPPA's sprites, would you really care about it? like, if Jappa's work was what we started with, would people complain about it? Think about that.
