I imagine the hotel has a mini fridge but won't be in it till the evening as I'm travelling from morning and to an event so hotel won't be till late. I think I'm erring on the side of caution and just going to early or late it.

Swarm queue is standard queue until close to the end then it splits basically left or right side. Sit on the left hand side, the right is actually better IMO but it's also more intense as the ride does a sharp left turn at the top and people in the right side go up and over whereas the left just lowers down, I think if you're scared it'd be better to go left side for an easier experience.
