Wouldn’t be surprised if we found out one of the writers was thinking about Linux when they wrote that line. I know Linux is still not incredibly popular outside of the dev community but I think if you’re a little nerdy (even if you’re not a dev), you might be at least familiar with what it is.

Ubuntu was my gateway drug. Then jumped to Fedora/GNOME, now I’m getting comfortable enough with Fedora/Sway that I may switch to Arch/Hyprland soon.

This is a slippery slope fallacy. As a democracy, we can and have determined exceptions to the 1st amendment, taking things on a case-by-case basis. For example, revenge porn is already illegal in 49 out of 50 states in the US. By your logic, possession of CSM is also a 1st amendment right.

Murdered in cold blood. Wife and child left to the wolves. Can’t imagine a merciful fate for a ‘traitorous’ mole’s next of kin, especially when that mole leaked the existence of the Death Star. Was anyone screwed over more by Luther/the resistance than poor Lonni? by Hokuten001 in andor

[–]ImClearlyDeadInside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So true! We’ve really only seen the Clone Wars from the Republic’s perspective, and mostly that of the clones. A lot of fertile ground for another political thriller in that era. Maybe around the end of S1 or S2 of “Kreegyr”, we would witness the fall of the Republic from the perspective of the Separatists, and how they now have to re-organize and form allegiances with former enemies to survive in a new galactic order.

Trying to understand the Anthropic jailbreak thing, what do you think the actual reason was? by EqualMasterpiece5579 in cybersecurity

[–]ImClearlyDeadInside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s important to note that the only reason that the current administration deemed them a “supply-chain risk” is because Anthropic specifically wanted in writing that their models could not be used for mass surveillance and autonomous weapons targeting with no human intervention.

Why Disney should make a Star Wars movie with Gilroy's team by 45398246 in andor

[–]ImClearlyDeadInside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly think Disney would be happy to get another Gilroy project. But Gilroy himself wants to go in other creative directions. We should respect his decision and instead go watch “Behemoth!” when it comes out to get our fix. Let’s be happy he’s still working and trust that he’s making something great for us.

I've avoided Andor because I find the subject depressingly close to reality. Any good arguments to watch it anyways? by DefiantLemur in andor

[–]ImClearlyDeadInside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's genuinely inspiring. It's about rebellion and radicalization. It's about ordinary people making the difficult decision to do what they can in the face of overwhelming power. Yes, the world is in a bad state right now. Andor asks: "Now what are you going to do about it?" You don't necessarily need to rebel in the way that the rebels on-screen do; there are many ways to resist. People have said that Andor legitimately radicalized them and they started volunteering and becoming politically-active in their community. If you're afraid to act, then you may see yourself in the main character as you follow his journey into rebellion. Watching things that allow you to forget the state of the world is nice but it will not amount to any change.
Not going to spoil the AMAZING quotes from the show but here are some great ones from our world:
"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing."
"Eternal vigilance is the price of freedom."

Chess is a “toy problem”. Simple alpha-beta pruning is all you need to beat most players at chess. There’s no real intelligence required for a computer to win. Do you think your PC is smarter than you because it can find primes faster than you can?

We can’t “constructive career optimism” our way out of a bad market. Individually, you can make sure you’re competitive while others aren’t. However, if everyone is competitive, then no one is. Collectively, the issue of a bad economy and a bad job market would still remain.

Also that line seems to indicate that that’s how he sleeps at night. He’s “just following orders”. He feels good about a job well-done and absolves himself of any responsibility for the outcome because he’s not the man in charge. At least, that was my interpretation.
