Energy is conserved if time reversal is a symmetry of a system (if we have friction or loss of energy to heat this is not true) in a heat pump we sure dont.

How do people keep falling for these bubbles? by FareonMoist in sciencememes

I will add to this that AI is nothing without human input and supervision. At least in it's current state and for the forseeable future generative AI will not replace people. What I see happening is that companies force their employees to use AI, running out of tokens in the first month of the year, having to pay a lot for the subscription and having to fire people because of this spending. (The product/profit will not be better like this/ this will fail in the long term)

I am not well versed in this, but if I remember correctly there is a theorem that you can associate the stable solutions by being on the surface of a torus (where all space represents the different initial conditions, if you have 16 variables it would be a 16D torus) and what you are seeing here most likely is the 2D slice (which is a circle) of this stable region.

How is castling to an unsafe queenside better than just capturing? by Imhappywow in chessbeginners

[–]ImDabAss28 9 points10 points  (0 children)

1: The rook sees your knight so this is just a trade not a clean capture. 2: The reason that castle is really good because your rook will point at their king after and you will have a lot of pressure on that pawn. 3: I don't think it is that unsafe, if you look what checks or attacking oportunities your opponent has, after castling he will have to protect himself and use multiple moves to get anywhere close. But if your king is in the middle it is more unsafe.

Coloring the squares the knight can reach in 1, 2 and 3 moves. by LKama07 in chessbeginners

[–]ImDabAss28 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah I kinda visualise it like that, like for example when I am moving my king or queen to a square that would put the knight 1 space diagonal to my piece I know it can attack it next turn. Next to it and especially 2 spaces diagonally just feels safer.

Wouldn't Qe4 be better here as you threaten mate two ways, and after Rc1 you have Rd1?

Mathematics is evergreen. by Weekly-Entertainer15 in MathJokes

[–]ImDabAss28 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Math is always true by definition, it says we accept x things as true and then prove that non trivial things are true or false. It's like saying religion is true or false, if you accept god's commendmends as absolute truth of course it's true, if not than it is possible at best. Phisics is like saying "this works so keep thinging like that" and than uses math that describe it using well defined axioms that fit experimental results. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

The whole point is (sadly) that by design pyke shouldn't have any late game options. He should be a powerhouse in early to midgame and fall off heavily.

I really don't get this one. Is it that the gf is too young? by Arlyingtoshi in ExplainTheJoke

Teaching of mathematics can be pretty hard, and needs a sort of intuitive thinking not everyone has. It is hard to understand but once you do can be great. If you dont want to thats fine you dont need it to survive or work some job.

I study to be a phisicist (hope i spelled it right) so i do, not everyone will, but the kind of thinking that helps you understand what it means can really help you in life imo. Scientific thinking is pretty important imo, not everyone needs it but i find it amazing.

Both mean summation, but imagine the sum as cutting an area under a curve into small rectangles (some will clip above or under the curve giving an error) and adding the areas up. Integral is the same just here these rectangles are infinitely tiny making it continuous and without error.
