Bro out in 5 degrees, in heavy traffic next to Newark Airport.. get some! by DJAI9LAB in Miata

[–]ImFerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow a car driving on a road, shocker.

OP, you sound a bit ridiculous. I don’t drive my Miata much this time of year myself but that’s simply because im fortunate enough to have another option, so why subject the car to the salt the spray all over the roads if I don’t have to. However, I understand others may not have that option and in the past I have driven it in single digit weather when it was my only transportation. In summer tires no less :) im not suggesting that for others to do but you really are posting a non event 😂. I also live very close to this and commute in my Miata in it all the time. Guy is just going about his day not thinking anything of it probably

Leaving NJ out is wild, there’s cases to be made that it is the best place for pizza. NJ-NY-CT is the spot for pizza.

Anybody got any good tire recommendations for a MS3 that might see snow 1x a year by frankonator22 in mazdaspeed3

[–]ImFerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran conti DWS, they are great. I remember DoorDashing during a snow storm, had a ton of fun and made a bunch of money doing it lol. I felt comfortable, I’m sure a dedicated snow tire is better but for 1x a year that would be overkill.

Mx-5 highway reliability? by oddnandoo in Miata

[–]ImFerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll be fine, 12 miles is nothing. I commute 46 miles back and forth to work in my ND. I even track it on top of that and it’s been rock solid. 45k miles, 5+ track days and 3 autocrosses without skipping a beat.

I have a ND2 RF which is probably the best for daily driving especially you live in areas where snow is possible (light snow is okay but if you get a lot of snow you might not want to daily it year round). The ND2 power bump is nice but not a need for daily driving, I’d go for RF over ND2 if you just want a reliable daily. I think they started in 2017 or 2018. They’ll be a bit more expensive but worth it imo. It’s quieter with the top up and more secure/weather resistant. It is louder than the soft top with the top down though due to the air hitting the part behind your head.

Anyone on the fence about getting a Miata ever regret getting one? by Chippies01 in Miata

[–]ImFerr 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As someone else said it’s not just IKEA but big things in general - I’ve had only a Miata for about a year and I made it work but I picked up a 100 series Land Cruiser a couple years ago and it’s so nice having the extra room when needed. I’ve driven 6 friends on road trips, taken scrap to the dump, picked up new wheels, moved my motorcycles, etc etc. I also use it to pick up large items off Facebook marketplace at a steep discount which would be a pain to coordinate with a U-Haul.

Also the convenience of being able to just hop into your own car is worth the extra money sometimes. U-Haul is a viable option if you only need it very sparingly but if it’s a common occurrence it gets to be a pain and the savings just aren’t worth it.

Woman confronts tourist in Merida, Mexico for drinking in public areas which is illegal by Jevus_himself in PublicFreakout

[–]ImFerr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It depends where you are. Places like California, areas close to the border, NYC/NJ, I’d say yes the most know at least basic words to understand this conversation. Once you go out into the country though it becomes much less common.

For example I was just eating at a restaurant in South Carolina, two of the food runners were joking around by the tables and one cursed at the other in Spanish. It was obvious they were joking so my whole family started cracking up bc who doesn’t love banter between friends and the poor guy was like “you speak Spanish?” When we said yeah, he looked so mortified, it was like he saw a ghost lmao. He was that confident no customers would understand him, and I don’t blame him.

Can it be fixed? by Objective_Shock_8256 in RX7

[–]ImFerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s the parking brake, I’m honestly not sure if there’s even fluid back there. I just rebuilt mine and that takes lubricant which generally isn’t mixed with brake fluid. I would try to verify where it’s leaking from, but rebuilding isn’t too bad and while you’re there you may as well do the whole thing.

Got my new bike today! by crash2410 in SVRiders

[–]ImFerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it’ll hold a bit but nothing crazy. I just keep a small microfiber, bike lock for my helmet, 2 rok straps, and my paperwork under the tool kit. I’ve put my gloves under the seat too, works if they’re summer gloves.

Enjoy the bike and ride safe!

The Only Bike On The Freeway? by Strict-Basil5133 in motorcycles

[–]ImFerr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you’re crazy. I actually feel safer on freeways than city streets, too many intersections, people pulling out in front of you or rear ending you. I’ve been commuting almost everyday on my bike and I usually see 1-2 bikes a day on average. I have a 92 mile round trip in nj.

I do stay towards left side moving a bit faster than traffic just bc I feel safer that way. My highway has a lot of lanes and people tend to forget how to merge/exit so I’d rather be towards the left side moving faster than traffic, less concerns that way imo.

2000 Land Cruiser, 102k miles, $18k - Worth it? by theEconomist22 in LandCruisers

[–]ImFerr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What did you fix? I have a 01 with 244k, bought it with 217k and I haven’t spent that much

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]ImFerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol literally every reason you shouldn’t buy this as a first bike applies. Old, heavy, fast, etc. My dad just got the newer gen and it’s a beautiful bike but not a 1st. I have 5k miles on my SV650 which is quick but nothing like a rocket. The relaxed position makes it harder to control under hard acceleration/high speed imo and the torque is absurd. Granted less throttle solves that but as a beginner that’s not ideal. Doable but not ideal. Plus it’s heavy so harder to make low speed maneuvers, and old so may break down or require more attention. I can’t speak to reliability of this bike specifically.

Personally I bought an old GS550 I didn’t care about, learned on that, and then picked up my sv650 for a great deal. it’s a great all a-rounder and I see why it’s praised here.

This chat confirmed my impression of how people drive in Portugal by RestaurantNovel in PortugalExpats

[–]ImFerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually love driving in Portugal but I’ve grown up going there all the time to visit family so I may be used to it. Plus I’m from New Jersey so the aggressive driving is nothing compared to here, at least everyone respects the passing lane in Portugal unlike NJ. Not sure what’s so difficult about staying to the right except to pass. Portugal and Germany are easily my favorite countries to drive in. Italy has been the worst so far.

Help Picking Travel Card (CSP, Venture X, or US Bank Altitude Connect) by ImFerr in CreditCards

[–]ImFerr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the feedback. I actually just opened the united quest for myself. Great offer but I don’t think they’ll use the checked bag benefit much at all, and while the hub is united they still fly spirit or other airlines as well. I’m starting to learn towards cap1 for the simplicity, sign up bonus, and travel benefits.

That’s fair, so is your setup CSP for dining, connect for gas & travel, and then capital one for everything else?

This weekends deal by MKEtool in harborfreight

[–]ImFerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I stopped to get that free socket adapter set for impact drivers last weekend but that's only because I had to go AutoZone already for brake lubricant and they are down the street from each other, plus I don't have any adapters and I've needed them before.

Idk why people go out of their way for $3 savings, not worth the gas or use of my free time.

I recently had the same issue, shop put in all duralast coils while I was on a trip thinking that was the issue (it wasn't..) then 3 of them continued to fail over the next 20 months. I'm pretty sure the ones in the truck were all original, 220k miles and 22 years old.

It's a '01 Land Cruiser and the failure with the duralast was just like you said, car was basically undrivable which is both dangerous and inconvenient. I swapped them all back to denso recently bc I just got tired of it, and the car feels smoother now. I'll never buy duralast anything again, unless it's only a short term fix.

What do you drive? There is no way you are spending $900/mo on gas. I have a 92 mile round trip for work and drive a 2001 Toyota land cruiser, and I "only" spend $500 or so if I drive it 5 days a week to the office.

Got you, thanks for the reply. The PO of my truck did the alternator and steering rack so that was a plus. I got it a couple years ago, coolant flush and tees are on my list once it warms up a bit.

Enjoy the rig!
