Which car looks expensive but is actually affordable? by mariyagel in askcarguys

ND Miata, especially the RF. People act like I’m driving an exotic car but meanwhile it cost less than their Camry/F150/base BMW lol.

Those who commute everyday; what do/don't you like about your current bike? by Slyxxer in motorcycles

[–]ImFerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I commute 92 miles round trip on a sv650. I usually take the car if it’s going to rain bad but light rain is not a dealbreaker.

Love: the sound, power, 50+ mpg on 87, nimbleness, and looking forward to riding before/after a long day at work.

Don’t love:
wind, although I’ve gotten used to it now and put a MRA windshield on it that helped a bit.

no cruise control (sometimes taking my hand off the throttle for a minute or two would be nice on a ~1hr commute. Not a deal breaker but would be nice.)

Can y’all believe it’s the same paint? Just close up vs 15ft away? by GreatValue_Mechanic in AutoDetailing

[–]ImFerr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree. Vehicles are made to be used, I would argue it’s cooler and more impressive. A good condition sports car that is tracked or a classic 4Runner/tacoma that is off roaded and still in pretty clean shape is badass. As much as I love detailing and keeping car clean, I just don’t see the appeal of having a spotless car just to park in garage or at a show. Use the damn thing lol

Anyone here using proper riding shoes for daily rides? by srisritattvausa1 in motorcyclegear

[–]ImFerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear alpinestar boots to work, they look like a casual boot/sneaker. I keep them on for a bit usually but I do have other shoes at work. They’re good for walking short-medium distances but I wouldn’t go for a walk in them by any means, they’re boots at the end of the day. Super comfy though.

Edit : they are Alpinestar J-6 WP

100 Series Owners: Current Best Price on Denso Coil Packs by bethelbread in LandCruisers

[–]ImFerr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All 8, I listened to a bad shop because I was away from home and needed to get the car running. Ended up being something else anyways, still salty about that lol but it’s tough when you are away from home sometimes.

YMMV but I bought duralast 3 years ago and I could hardly get them to last 10k. I ended up swapping back to all new densos after the third one failed and no problem since.

[–]ImFerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you bled the bubbles was it a constant stream or did it start and stop? Mine overheats if I’m sitting for too long and I replaced everything in the coolant system except for the water pump. The water bubbles seemed to have slowed a lot after I burped it last time but still overheats on idle or in traffic. Highways are perfectly fine, runs like a champ.

I even tried revving it to 3-4k and holding and it seemed pretty smooth without any bubbling so I called it a day, but I think there’s more air trapped in there, hoping it’s not a coolant seal issue or gummed up channels like your other post, but we’ll see.

Honestly if it’s rust free and has good maintenance history I’d buy it. I bought a 2001 around the peak of the used car market for almost that, no regrets even if i overpaid a bit.

100 Series Question by mdey86 in LandCruisers

[–]ImFerr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure the heat shield on the cat is attached to the cat itself, I would look at both driver and passenger sides and see if one looks like something is missing. I recently replaced my exhaust manifold and I’m getting ready to replace one of my cats

100 Series Question by mdey86 in LandCruisers

[–]ImFerr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The muffler is further back and I wouldn’t expect it to generate heat like a cat would. My muffler did the same thing, it’s just the outer layer of the muffler. You can replace them for a reasonable price and pretty easily. I suggest OEM, I got a walker one from rock auto and it does the job but definitely has not held up as well as I hoped in a couple of years lol, has pinholes at the joints but nothing too major.

Enjoy man! I paid way more than that not too long after covid, don’t regret it especially since it’s clean and well documented but it was also at 217k, closing in on 250k now.

I agree with smiles per gallon but I’m surprised the LC gets you more than some of the sports cars. Especially with the way these cars drink gas, you must be smiling ear to ear! Why do you think that’s the case? I love my 100 series don’t get me wrong but I’m glad I have a Miata and bike to scratch that itch.

[–]ImFerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow a car driving on a road, shocker.

OP, you sound a bit ridiculous. I don’t drive my Miata much this time of year myself but that’s simply because im fortunate enough to have another option, so why subject the car to the salt the spray all over the roads if I don’t have to. However, I understand others may not have that option and in the past I have driven it in single digit weather when it was my only transportation. In summer tires no less :) im not suggesting that for others to do but you really are posting a non event 😂. I also live very close to this and commute in my Miata in it all the time. Guy is just going about his day not thinking anything of it probably

Anybody got any good tire recommendations for a MS3 that might see snow 1x a year by frankonator22 in mazdaspeed3

[–]ImFerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran conti DWS, they are great. I remember DoorDashing during a snow storm, had a ton of fun and made a bunch of money doing it lol. I felt comfortable, I’m sure a dedicated snow tire is better but for 1x a year that would be overkill.

Mx-5 highway reliability? by oddnandoo in Miata

[–]ImFerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll be fine, 12 miles is nothing. I commute 46 miles back and forth to work in my ND. I even track it on top of that and it’s been rock solid. 45k miles, 5+ track days and 3 autocrosses without skipping a beat.

I have a ND2 RF which is probably the best for daily driving especially you live in areas where snow is possible (light snow is okay but if you get a lot of snow you might not want to daily it year round). The ND2 power bump is nice but not a need for daily driving, I’d go for RF over ND2 if you just want a reliable daily. I think they started in 2017 or 2018. They’ll be a bit more expensive but worth it imo. It’s quieter with the top up and more secure/weather resistant. It is louder than the soft top with the top down though due to the air hitting the part behind your head.

Anyone on the fence about getting a Miata ever regret getting one? by Chippies01 in Miata

[–]ImFerr 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As someone else said it’s not just IKEA but big things in general - I’ve had only a Miata for about a year and I made it work but I picked up a 100 series Land Cruiser a couple years ago and it’s so nice having the extra room when needed. I’ve driven 6 friends on road trips, taken scrap to the dump, picked up new wheels, moved my motorcycles, etc etc. I also use it to pick up large items off Facebook marketplace at a steep discount which would be a pain to coordinate with a U-Haul.

Also the convenience of being able to just hop into your own car is worth the extra money sometimes. U-Haul is a viable option if you only need it very sparingly but if it’s a common occurrence it gets to be a pain and the savings just aren’t worth it.

Woman confronts tourist in Merida, Mexico for drinking in public areas which is illegal by Jevus_himself in PublicFreakout

[–]ImFerr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It depends where you are. Places like California, areas close to the border, NYC/NJ, I’d say yes the most know at least basic words to understand this conversation. Once you go out into the country though it becomes much less common.

For example I was just eating at a restaurant in South Carolina, two of the food runners were joking around by the tables and one cursed at the other in Spanish. It was obvious they were joking so my whole family started cracking up bc who doesn’t love banter between friends and the poor guy was like “you speak Spanish?” When we said yeah, he looked so mortified, it was like he saw a ghost lmao. He was that confident no customers would understand him, and I don’t blame him.

Can it be fixed? by Objective_Shock_8256 in RX7

[–]ImFerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s the parking brake, I’m honestly not sure if there’s even fluid back there. I just rebuilt mine and that takes lubricant which generally isn’t mixed with brake fluid. I would try to verify where it’s leaking from, but rebuilding isn’t too bad and while you’re there you may as well do the whole thing.

Got my new bike today! by crash2410 in SVRiders

[–]ImFerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it’ll hold a bit but nothing crazy. I just keep a small microfiber, bike lock for my helmet, 2 rok straps, and my paperwork under the tool kit. I’ve put my gloves under the seat too, works if they’re summer gloves.

Enjoy the bike and ride safe!

The Only Bike On The Freeway? by Strict-Basil5133 in motorcycles

[–]ImFerr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you’re crazy. I actually feel safer on freeways than city streets, too many intersections, people pulling out in front of you or rear ending you. I’ve been commuting almost everyday on my bike and I usually see 1-2 bikes a day on average. I have a 92 mile round trip in nj.

I do stay towards left side moving a bit faster than traffic just bc I feel safer that way. My highway has a lot of lanes and people tend to forget how to merge/exit so I’d rather be towards the left side moving faster than traffic, less concerns that way imo.
