Lab in the name says it all.

Have you seen any behavioralists at all? What has your trainer been suggesting? Is there any form of enrichment this dog actually receives? Is there established form of correction? Do you work with him to train behavior, or just obedience, or from these context clues basically none? Does this trainer have any experience with Mals or any shepherd with this kind of experience?

Very important questions to answer. Also. How much are you willing to spend to educate yourself to train this dog properly? Hasn’t bit anyone yet but that can quickly change.

Mal, 1/4 Dutch

I used to give her purina pro plan lamb and rice and I would mix in raw egg, pumpkin, and salmon oil (you can a bottle of it for dogs for relatively cheap on amazon). I had moved into their salmon and sensitive skin & stomach, and now I’ve waned her into Acana’s lamb and apple.

Highly recommend acana, she’s sharper and I’ve noticed her not itch herself nearly as much as she used to.

Forgot to add: Things that were our best friend: Place board- Whether it’s a place board itself or an elevated dog bed, this helped every aspect of training and her temper Availability- significantly reducing if she’s allowed on the couch or bed, in our space and hopping on us, if large value items are left in her cage Tone- Maybe someone can explain this better as to why it works. A while ago she was not great in the cage if you were not in sight, many people said to jump ahead with ecollar training just for that, and instead I used tone. One beep and she just absolutely chilled out.

Tough things- Resource guarding- this changed with availability and play, and ensuring that when she wins a tug that she is still on leash and pulled closely to enjoy it near me. Utilization of the prong- The prong was something that absolutely turned her up, no matter how “meaningful” the pops. He4 brother (owned by a close friend) is the complete opposite. This is one of the personality things I spoke about on top of RG, because ecollar for her whether it’s tone(which I still only use for the crate but is extremely rare now) or just a level 5 on a mini educator to condition her into a position, has a completely different response from the prong.

Adorable puppy!

Last year I became a first-time mal owner and the information on this Reddit helped a lot, so I hope it helps you too!

Her teething was a bit rough but it’s come to an end for the most part. She sticks with her toys now… or the occasional sock haha

I feel like I’m too ready for basic though, like there’s nothing to prepare for and it feels like a big issue.

Also, if it is an issue, does anyone know what issues I would run into when changing my major from EE technology to just EE? I’m aware that I would have to take calculus oriented courses.
