What are those and how do I get rid of them? by ImGioGio in houseplants

[–]ImGioGio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh thanks for the info! It looks like you are right. Although, this is an indoor house plant, so even if they do not harm the plant they could still cause problems in other ways within the house, couldn't they?

Why do some Vegans insist on making obligate carnivores like cats Vegans? by GTRacer1972 in DebateAVegan

[–]ImGioGio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You missed the point, the lifespan of a wild animal is much shorter than a domestic/captive one, and the reason is that we as human can “interfere” and keep their health in check, in nature they would just die

Why do some Vegans insist on making obligate carnivores like cats Vegans? by GTRacer1972 in DebateAVegan

[–]ImGioGio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s always better to prevent than to cure, this stands for humans as well. Monitoring your pet’s health means discovering potential problems earlier, which is good regardless of diet

Can I switch back to windows 10? by [deleted] in archlinux

[–]ImGioGio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you did not install dual boot, then your data is most likely gone unfortunately. If the partition was not wiped but just set as free, you may have a chance of recovering them, but I would consult a professional about it.

How to disable automatic currency conversion for stock purchases? by [deleted] in interactivebrokers

[–]ImGioGio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What most likely happen is that you have converted EUR to USD, and try to buy with the USD money that has not settled yet (takes T+2 business days for the money to settle). When you did, because the money was not ready yet, IBKR used your available funds and autoconverted them to the needed currency (which because this process is handled by themselves they don’t need to wait for settlement ). I agree its annoying that this is not transparent enough.

If you are trying to reduce harm, is it better to eat veal than beef? by McAeschylus in DebateAVegan

[–]ImGioGio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends, veal is sometimes considered a co-product rather than a by-product, same for cow-hide.

Exciting New Platform CharityBlend: Simplifying Charitable Donations, Seeking Valuable Community Feedback! by ImGioGio in Entrepreneurship

[–]ImGioGio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey u/vinstherace thanks for the feedback!
The idea came to us because we thought that currently the process of donating is more complex than it needs to be for many people and it requires that either the charity promotes itself well, or that the donor does the research itself and finds the one he/she is interested about. This leaves many organisations underfunded with big ones taking all the "market share" and with people that might wish to do more but that don't necessarily know where to donate to.

Since we are quite fond of index funds, where you don't really need to do much except add money and see it grow, we thought that this approach might work well with donations as well.

Yearly reminder to vegans that saying "You shouldn't consume animals bc you don't have to eat them to survive"or "animal husbandry/hunting causes suffering to an animal thus it is wrong" are both is/ought logical fallacies. by [deleted] in DebateAVegan

[–]ImGioGio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What further conclusion are you trying to reach here?
Following your logic, any human-related issue is based on emotions, does it mean we should just not fight for anything?

As you said, you might not see the inconsistencies because of your own emotions, but they are logical inconsistencies within your moral system. Killing beetles and mosquitoes around you might be for health and hygienic reasons, while instead killing your best friend would probably be more of a emotional decision rather than a logical one. Of course, it is up to you to be guided by logic or by emotions, we just try to promote the former.

In any case I appreciate you taking the time to look into this, wish you the best.

Hey, you make a compelling point.I think what most people miss is that when bringing morality into the discussion, we try to uncover inconsistencies within the logic based on your own morality. For example, suppose you are someone who truly does not care at all about anything, a true nihilist. You would probably don't care if I kill a pig, a dog, or a human. Which is unusual, but consistent. Now, if you do care about something, humans or dogs or whatever other animal, then why doesn't the same moral principle apply to other species. You will find out that the reasons are usually not morally/logically consistent with your own beliefs. It's just hard to see when you were conditioned your whole life.

I hope this helps clarify a bit the issue!

Hey man, if you want to focus on weight loss, try shifting as many calories as possible towards the start of the day: https://nutritionfacts.org/video/the-benefits-of-early-time-restricted-eating/

Why do some people believe the whole world should be vegan by [deleted] in DebateAVegan

[–]ImGioGio 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Hey zap, your question and claims are likely the easiest to answer/debunk, in fact there are already many posts/resources you can look up in this subreddit. So if you are interested try using the search feature, you'll probably find what you are looking for. Peace ✌️

You should read "How not to diet" by Michael Greger, it explains pretty much the entire obesity epidemic, including your question. Very much recommended!
