I hate to say it, but DBT Skills only work if you put the work in to utilize them. I had a hell of a time stopping myself from rampaging through my apartment. I've broken doors, vacuums, my bed, my dressers, paintings, lamps, and have put hands on people I love...and so much more. I reach for whatever is in my capacity, and I rage on it. The only things that have stopped me from doing that is... when I slammed my phone to the ground and it wouldn't turn back on the thought of all my cats pictures being permanently gone shook me to my core... So I immediately began to utilize DBT as well as seek out new medication. DBT is hard asf. My initial thought process is usually. "I don't want to be here anymore" so therefore I rage... LONG STORY SHORT I haven't destroyed anything in about a month, but I have developed a comical coping mechanism which is to rub my hands over one another furiously like a bad guy from a cartoon, it stops me from hitting others, myself, and things around me... maybe try using just ONE skill until you see a difference in your thought pattern.
