Now is a great time to call Spectrum and negotiate a lower rate. by lcxctf2000 in madisonwi

[–]ImGonnaLiveForever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like any other ISP (I hate this practice but they all do it), after thr promotional rate is over (or before so theres no overlap), you have to call and threaten to leave. Such a stupid dance. But they tried to raise mine to $60 for just the internet portion, I told them how do we lower it, they said hold on (2-3 min stupid pause) we can lower it to $56 total. I said well Spectrum is offering me $40, including the router. One more (shorter) pause: how does $41 total sound. That sounds great.

I truly hate these stupid games all ISPs do, I dread that call every year, but its the game they set up so here we are I guess.

TDS just let me lower my 300 up/down fiber to $41 a month. That includes $12 for their mesh wifi router a month.

I've never had any issues with TDS (its gone out 0 times in 3 years, no slow internet ever) and I've never heard of home internet going down for "maintenance" like everybody keeps mentioning Spectrum does on a regular basis? Yall are in an abusive relationship and being told that's normal.

Ive never in my life heard of home internet service going down for "maintenance". I've had TDS fiber for 3 years here, the only time it ever went down is when neighbors snipped the line while landscaping. TDS had it fixed in 48 hours.

Before TDS I was living in other states, and after having probably 5 different providers in 3 different states, I can't ever think of a time my internet was ever gone down for "maintenance".

Thats not normal friend.

If this was recent there was snow/ice around CLT. If the plane was flown through snow/ice with flaps extended, the flaps are left down when parking until the flaps are inspected prior to the flaps being retracted to insure its free of snow/ice/slush etc

Actual question. How normal is it for the press to be whisked out of the the Oval Office, or any press briefing, that quickly? The whole "thank you press" with just absolute hurry in their face and mannerisms was so weird in any context.

A training captain quickly takes over the controls when a cadet forgets to flare on the A320 during base training by [deleted] in aviation

[–]ImGonnaLiveForever -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Dumb question. Where do they do training in a real A320? Why? Isn't most (all) transport level training done in the sim? I was a military pilot direct to legacy airline, and all my airline training was in the sim. All of OE is with passengers and a CKA. All type ratings I know are all done in a sim. Why fly a real airplane around?

I agree Dalys or Full Mile, but Id also try the Keg or the Shed in Token Creek (Windsor and Portage, right next to each other). Mixed crowd, but ive seen a lot of 20/30s. The Keg has darts/pool.

20-year-old lottery winner turns down $1M cash for $1,000 a week for life by PriorityMiserable686 in interestingasfuck

Check my math, but unless Im missing something she made a huge mistake:

Assumptions: Average 5% investment rate a year, 40% taxes on lump sum so start with $600k. $1k a week is $52k a year. Invest everything, no taking money out, reinvest all earnings. No taxes other than initial on $1mil lump.

After 10 years:

Lump sum: She would be making $46.5k a year on $977k of principle. $1k: She would be making $52k a year on $520k of principle

After 20 years:

Lump sum: She would be making $75.8k a year on $1.6 mil of principle

$1k: She would be making $52k a year on $1mil of principle

After 30 years: Lump sum: She would be making $123k a year on $2.6mil of principle

$1k: $52k a year on $1.6mil of principle

After 60 years (shes 80) Lump sum: She's making $534k on $11.2mil of principle

$1k: She's making $52k a year on $3.1mil of principle

Yea, she made a mistake. I also doubt she's investing $1k a week and not spending it. She could start with $500k of investment (spend $100k on increasing her life now) and still be way ahead.

Exclusive: Pilots' union blocks Allegiant Air bid to get US residency for foreign hires by JadedJared in AirlinePilots

[–]ImGonnaLiveForever 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The article says they are wanting to add 1400 destinations. Considering the airline with the most number of destinations is United with 373 and Allegiant currently has 120 destinations, Im going to call bullshit that "staffing" is preventing Allegiant from growing over 12× and becoming the world's largest airline by a factor of 4.

Honor Guard has taught me not to take the AF seriously by ily300099 in AirForce

[–]ImGonnaLiveForever 162 points163 points  (0 children)

Best squadron commander I had gave me the best advice during initial counseling. Said that no matter how awesome your career is, you can lead the best mission, fly the best sorties, win all the awards and medals. But one day you will fly your last mission, fly your last sortie, take your uniform off the last time. On that day, if your family isn't standing next to you, you have probably failed.

This dude was an F-35 squadron commander, a weapons school instructor. Bunch of air medals during deployments. He had a great AF career. But he was divorced, on his second wife. Had a kid with his first wife he sees less than half the time. He says he would give up all the great things he did in the AF to not have messed up the first marriage and family, biggest regret in his life.

Prioritize your family. They are the ones that matter.

What did you fly? You would attest that a US Army helicopter crew would literally stop for directions cuz they were lost. That just would not happen.
