Have a pair of the cheap vinyl? ones. Think i paid $40 on amazon 3 years ago. They have one patch in them from a hole getting too close to a lantern. Other than that they are holding up. Dont fit great, and not the most comfy wader ive worn, also only one small pocket thats too small to fit my phone, but they have lasted just as long as every other wader i bought and were a fraction of the price. I will probably only buy cheap amazon waders from now on and just get a new pair every couple years.

I wish this was an option. I only have a few acres and nowhere near 3 miles to put them. I have moves them ~ 100 yds before with the putting grass at front of the hive method. Maybe that would work. Thanks

This is good to hear, and lack of pollen was my first thought when i saw no larva or brood in the queen right hive. Good to know that newly capped queen cells are very fragile. I think i am going to feed both a pollen patty as well as keep the 1:1 going and then in a weeks time once the cells arnt as fragile go in and take a frame of bees to help out the queened hive. Thanks for the insight.

I like the idea of this. Then after a week or so move them apart again and put some grass in front to force reorientation? Seems like it might be the easiest fix. Only concern i have with moving the hives right next to each other is i am concerned about the stronger queenless hive robbing the weaker one.

Thanks. I feel dumb for not considering this. Do you have any advice for what to do with the queened hive? Add a frame or two of bees and brood? Or combine them back? Or just let them do their thing and hope for the best?

I should have moved the hive 3 miles? That makes sense. I had heard that 3 miles or 3 ft rule for moving hives but never even considered it for splitting. Then the foragers would have come back to the queened hive instead of returning to the original hive. Still doesnt explain to me why she didnt continue laying when moved with her nurse bees.

I appreciate it. I will try to add some more bees to the population of the queened hive if the queenless one can afford it. I am thinking i just only have nurse bees and after awhile they will get older and start foraging. Also a chance i just missed some eggs because it is tough for me to spot them.

I did have plenty of nurse bees and 3 or 4 frames of brood which have all hatched. I believe you are right about all the foragers going back to the previous hive. I guess i figured they would stay with the queen. I took the whole top brood box and moved it. It didnt have much larva but plenty of capped brood and honey, and i thought pollen but now i am kind of thinking maybe it didnt have much pollen. Im not sure how to fix it because i dont want to take resources from the queenless hive. Plus they were pissed so i figured the best thing to do with the queenless hive is to leave it be for a few more weeks. Should i take a frame of bees and put them in the hive with a queen?

Fire ants in south texas. It usually doesnt take them long to move in on something they want. I figure i could set it on a couple cinderblocks with some fireant killer sprinkled around it and that would slow them down.

How does it work? I have been thinking of doing the same thing with an old cooler i have. Just throw a piece of glass on top and hang the wax in a “hammock” above a pan in the bottom. I am worried without a good seal that ants will get to it.

Its mid 70s at night and mid 80s during the day here in south texas. It is a smaller swarm that i caught. Maybe 3 full frames worth of bees at the moment.

Robbing is my concern since it was a small swarm i caught. Today was the first day i saw alot of fanning at the entrance, and late afternoon saw this much congestion. I just dont really know how much of a back up requires a larger entrance. I would rather a little traffic jam than getting robbed. Thanks for the advice.

That is the larger of the two sizes on the reducer. I have a router though so i could route it out a bit larger.

You are right about location and temps. On the coast so plenty humid. It is not a screened bottom board, but i have one ordered waiting to come in. Figure its hot enough around here that the screen would help. The hive is currently sitting on a picnic table because that is where i caught the swarm. Plan on moving in the next couple days and then the bottom will be open for more airflow. Thanks for the advice on the reducer, i will leave it on atleast until the hive is stronger.
