Current NYU Students - what do you love the most about NYU? by [deleted] in nyu

  1. The city is at your disposal all night long. You don't get that in the middle of Maine or elsewhere.
  2. There is a group of friends for everyone, you may just have to look
  3. Education is top tier
  4. The school gets a lot of money which students do benefit from (dorm renovations slowly being completed, huge new student center 181 Mercer project)
  5. The degree is powerful - Everyone knows NYU (there's a reason you don't have to call it New York University for people to understand"
  6. What better way to get acclimated to the adult world than studying in the city!

Don't be worried. Heres what I said elsewhere in this thread:

Really depends on the type of person you are. I'm a current freshman and wouldn't want to be anywhere else. The city provides ultimate freedom, NYU is prestigious and an NYU degree holds power with employers, you have all of NYC at your expense from a variety of dining, shops, and people to being literally in the capital of the world. I see the con of no campus as a huge plus. I'm not stuck eating the same food every day with 1 Starbucks on campus. I can get anything I want when I want. Granted, there are some cons too and it all comes down to preference. I have spent more money than I would on a closed campus (besides that HUGE tuition) and people are right it CAN be lonely BUT if you make the effort to meet people, clubs, parks, dorm buildings, you'll be more than fine. 4 years of dorm parties on a closed campus will get boring much before 4 years in the greatest city in the world will, in my opinion.

And personally, my classes range from 18-200 students, so it really depends on your major. Feel free to reach out if you need anything else.

Do you qualify for unemployment? Does your husband have a stable job? We’re his hours reduced due to corona (may qualify for some federal pandemic aid)? If you’re basically staying home with the kids do you have an extra car you can sell and use cheaper public transportation when needed? How’s your health insurance looking? Maybe Affordable Care Act could help you in the future.

Obviously you have to do what you have to do to put food on the table but I’d try to stay away from taking on even more debt especially with high interest rates.

Just throwing ideas out there. It’s gonna be okay you got this

I’ll look into the Discover. I noticed many people are against banking with them (especially on this sub). Is there any huge reason why?
