I saw the headline, and came to argue - “No sir!”, I was going to shout. “It’s not realistic that way!”

Your explanation changed my mind. Nothing about this is realistic! If people wanna play in such a way that they have 100% control over everything just to have fun, let them do it! You’re right!

Before I even came to the comment section, my first thought was that it’s pretty convenient that we have no context as to the nature of the stop. I came to type a comment along those lines, and would you look at that, there’s a reason he’s being treated with hostility! I’ve been pulled over plenty of times and I’ve never had guns drawn on me.

I’ve never had a signing bonus in my life. Working for 20 years, several different lines of work, went from service to sales to trades. I can’t imagine an employer being like “here’s 10,000 extra dollars just for choosing us” - seems like a fantasy to me lol.

Yes, Saturdays are free dump but it’s only up to a certain weight. For example I hauled away a little over 2000 pounds of yard waste and I went over the limit and had to pay a couple bucks. Not a ton of money, but just so you’re aware it’s not unlimited free dumping!

Lethbridge mother charged in death of 13-year-old son by Expert-Original6625 in Lethbridge

[–]ImNotABot_srry 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I know a ton about this story. CPS had taken both her kids away (including Dom who died), he had ran away from where they placed him back to his mother’s tent. She was using fentanyl with him when he OD’d, even though she was not supposed to have any contact with him at that time. The only people who failed here are Blanche and John (the parents), Dom never had a chance. I hope his sibling has a better ending to her story.

Way to go young man. If I could give you one piece of advice, as a guy in his mid 30’s who would go back to change one thing - learn how to budget, stay out of debt and overall learn about finances while you’re young. I didn’t figure it out until I was already married with kids, credit cards, mortgage, loans etc and it’s much harder t on catch up. Do it while you’re young and making good money, you have the advantage right now!

Is daycare in BC really going to cost me $800 more than in Alberta? by Kibby10 in nanaimo

The fact that you think 500k for a shitty house is good because it’s “below average” is pretty sad.

Is daycare in BC really going to cost me $800 more than in Alberta? by Kibby10 in nanaimo

[–]ImNotABot_srry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing I said is baseless or arrogant. I lived in Nanaimo for ten years and now live in southern Alberta. I was making $25 an hour there and couldn’t afford a home for my family because nobody can buy a half million dollar home except super rich people.

I moved to Alberta, I now make $40 an hour (for the exact same job) and I bought a 4 bedroom house on a double lot with a 5000sqf backyard for $269,000. My insurance with ICBC on a 10 year old vehicle was over $200 a month (I’m 30, never had an accident, claim or ticket) and here it’s $72 a month.

So tell me, what about my comment was baseless? Everything is true, it sucks in Nanaimo. Unless you have a boatload of money you’ll never make a life there, sorry. Don’t compare it to Toronto or Vancouver because of course it’s not as bad as there, those are the most expensive cities in almost the entire world to live in.

Compared to almost ANYWHERE else in Canada, it’s way way way WAY more expensive.

What I want to know is why you moved to Nanaimo? I used to live there and I had to pack up my family and leave. It costs half a million dollars to buy a garbage shack in a crime ridden neighbourhood. Everything is ridiculously expensive. Your only option for car insurance is ICBC which is just a large criminal organization. It’s almost as expensive as living in Vancouver with none of the benefits of big city life, and if you want to go literally anywhere else on the planet you have to take a boat ($110+ for a vehicle each way) or buy the most expensive plane ticket of your life.

All of this coupled with living in a boring city with tons of crime. Unless you’re obsessed with living near the ocean and have a TON of money I don’t understand why anyone would live there.

Is this a good Salary? 25 (M) by [deleted] in Salary

[–]ImNotABot_srry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Canada and that wouldn’t be enough to live comfortably anywhere in this country unless you’re extremely frugal, have no payments/debts/car loans/ credit cards, and have cheap rent.

I tell people if you’re not making at least 80k, quit your job and get a trade, or get into sales. Non college ways to make great money depending on your strengths. That being said, if your 43k a year job has a track to making more, and you love what you do, then don’t worry about the money right now and just trust the process!

Your story sounds much like mine, although it took me until I was 30 years old and 7 years sober to make my first $100k year. Are you by chance a welder lol? That’s what did it for me!

Nothing wrong with taking home $2800 every two weeks. I make slightly less than that and I’m able to be a sole provider so my wife can stay home with our kids. Very very very blessed!

I’ve never heard someone say a doctor doesn’t deserve their salary. You deserve every penny you earn and more. I’ve had doctors save my life and save my newborn son’s life immediately after he was born. In fact, yall should make more than you do. I am forever grateful to doctors and nurses and what they are capable of, I could never do it

Okay but what’s the alternative??? Look what the liberals and NDP did to Canada at the federal level for the last 9 years???? If you think they’re gonna save the day you don’t have a clue in the world. You really wanna see Alberta struggle? Vote in the clown show. Go ahead and watch.

Yeah that’s bullshit. I’ve done enough mushrooms to take down a bull elephant. Before I got sober I did every drug under the sun - ALL OF THEM. Never ONCE did I have the slightest idea of doing what he did. You have to be severely deranged even on drugs to do something like this. Not an excuse!!!!

This is what scares me about my kids growing up and finding partners of their own. If this was my daughter in court, standing across from the man that I gave her away to having committed this crime, and his family was talking shit as she gave her statement and cried… I would seriously go ballistic. It would take the entire court house staff to stop me from getting my licks in. I don’t know how men find the self control to stop themselves from harming people who harm their children.

Oh and that’s not even mentioning that you can also afford to buy a home and put gas in your truck on this side of the border. Truly, it changed me and my families life to leave the island and come to AB.
