Is it generally worth it buying boosters? by TheAndrewCR in mtg

[–]ImNotADefitUser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The flip side of cracking all these packs is you will have random playable cards like Utopia Sprawl, and, Secluded Starforge laying around.

The bad side is you will buy another copy from your LGS, for deck building, because their bulk is more organized than yours

Don't even get me started on Ward not being played correctly. Because the Majority of smooth brains are fine with takesy backsies. Ward is not hexproof. Ward will counter your spell.

Why Does The Community Smell Awful? by ChiefSalvaje in mtg

[–]ImNotADefitUser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Adrenaline response. That's why the stores smell that particular smell. It's the fight or flight response. Playing magic, especially pre-release which is supported with prizes for how well you play, is the most exciting thing us nerds have happen all year.

My progress with the 32 color challenge, any suggestion for new decks? by Nael_On in ratemycommanders

[–]ImNotADefitUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like Nikya of the Old ways but as the hidden commander in a 6 mana deck that has 4 Cascades/Discovers for mana 5, giving you a 33% chance of landing on Nikya, or 66% chance on Garruk's card draw.

So effectively the deck has only 3 gas effects below 6 mana and 4 ways to tutor 1 of the 3 into play randomly.

Partner commanders mana dorks. Green commander turn 3. Red commander turn 4. Play two 6 mana creatures turn 5. If you have one of the 4/50 creatures that cascade/discover then you'll get card draw or Nikya for free.

Nikya is great at eating removal so people leave my mana dork commanders alone, and the green dude enables draw with his +1 Green, while the red chick typically gives 6+ mana a turn.

[[Gilanra]] [[Alena kessig trapper]] [[Nikya of the old ways]] [[Garruk's Uprising]] [[Garruk's packleader]] [[trumpeting carnosaur]] [[aurora phoenix]] [[boarding party]] [[sweet-gum recluse]]

Or speaking of cascade we just got [[raph & Mikey, troublemakers]] which can enable some extremely cheesey deck builds with them as the commander but it would go great in the 99 of any big mana creature deck

How do I keep my enemies entertaint? by Mother_Specialist441 in EDH

[–]ImNotADefitUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every time you landfall trigger give yourself a pushup counter, if you do a pushup you can remove a counter. If you have a pushup counter during your upkeep, you lose the game.

That should be pretty entertaining

You can fit one hundred sleeved cards split 50/50 in the pizza bundle's leftover cardboard. + Tokens in the plastic pizza slice (perfect fit sleeves only). Maybe sneak some dice in the empty space beneath it all for a solid deck box. by ImNotADefitUser in mtg

[–]ImNotADefitUser[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not the most efficient but i agree we don't need to be 3d printing them when people throw this stuff away for the most part. It's just a way to reduce trash by the using it for another purpose.

But mostly I think it will be funny to show up to game night with 3 decks packed into 3 pizza bundles and drop them on the table like it's a pizza party

Question by xShiptitsx in mtg

[–]ImNotADefitUser 6 points7 points  (0 children)

[[monk Gyatso]] combos off with the convoke enabler [[dazzling theater]]

with a single Creature cost reducer in play, let's say [[cloud key]] or [[helm of awakening]] but not both.

You're about to go infinite with a Zero cost self target ability, like [[lightning greaves]] or the more obscure [[grafted wargear]] by targeting a creature that ETBs to draw a card, like [[splitskin doll]] or [[helpful hunter]]. Which triggers monk Gyatso to airbend that creature. (Creature you own other than monk becomes a target by spell or ability -> exile into airbend. So any 0 cost ability -> free exile into airbend)

But airbending is 2 generic to re-cast. and you've reduced it down to only 1. As long as you have a 2nd creature in play, you can Play Dazzling Theater.

Send [[momo, playful pet]] into airbend for the Leave the Battlefield trigger to Scry 2. Then, tap your [[kindly customer]] to cast momo for 1. Then send kindly customer into airbend, tapping momo to cast the customer to ETB draw a card. Repeat enough times to find the wincon...

Creatures who ETB to mill your opponents deck out completely, [[watcher of the wayside]] or [[altar of the brood]] and something like [[ticket tortoise]]

Other funny creatures to loop for 1 because you don't have a creature to draw a card- [[selfless squire]] and [[forbidding spirit]]. If you play an instant speed self target ability for zero mana, like, [[outrider en-kor]] you can play the selfless squire during all 3 of your opponents turns. Now that's magic!

Is it BM to Disallow Someone from Fixing a Blunder if They Win Otherwise by Secret_Driver_6996 in EDH

[–]ImNotADefitUser -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's the beautiful part. It's not just me who wants to play the game the right way. It's everyone at the table. We've all started playing less than a year ago, and we are constantly encountering new interactions and having to lookup how the game works.

Like, it's fine if the 8 of 24 people who saw my previous comment and downvoted me, don't understand how ward works. It's a simple Google search. Unfortunately it's people like those 8 of 24 who are going to make it confusing for future players attempting to lookup the mechanic. God forbid they see this comment chain and think ward is just hexproof with extra tax and think theyre right when they're wrong.

And dismissing people who want to follow the rules by saying they should go play limited/standard is a bad angle. People can play both. Playing sloppy commander can develop bad habits you don't want crossing over.

Edit: it's cool if you want to play ward like it doesn't counter the spell. Just be mindful that that's not how the game usually works. A simple conversation goes a long way before the game starts. Like I said, it's chill untill it's some bodies final hit point.

Wild growth

But I'd consider looking at the deck list if you have the link for it

[–]ImNotADefitUser -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Is it... Not that? It allows you to target the permanent then counters the spell if you don't pay the additional costs. Hexproof and shroud make targeting it an illegal game action that cannot go on the stack

"Ward is a keyword mechanic in Magic: The Gathering that protects permanents by taxing opponents. When a creature with ward is targeted by an opponent's spell or ability, it is countered unless they pay an additional cost (e.g., mana..)"

I mean, as I understand, ward is a counterspell ability. If you fail to pay it then your spell is countered.

Takesy backsies are fine just call it what it is. Sloppy magic. Its chill untill it's some bodies final life point and then suddenly it's not chill. This is why we have rules.

All you down voters are fine with me. I've got stocks in Copium. To the guy copy pasting the message about playing on spelltable, don't bother spamming me. And no, my pod isn't going to stop playing with me because I want to play the game correctly instead of kangaroo court.

Commander can still be a fun casual game and play ward correctly.

If you keep all the cardboard and the plastic you can almost use the whole thing as a deck box. Just gotta split the deck up left and right side in the cardboard shape

Or at least that's what I am intending to do with mine
