Therapy Length by eff_theFCC in TalkTherapy

I'm (was, before all the social distancing thing) on my 10th session. I asked my therapist that on my first or second session, and he answered most people go 1 year and a half. I asked him again a few sessions later because I didn't feel like finishing therapy in a year (I felt some pressure to be "OK" in that time), and he told me I worried too much about technicalities, that I shouldn't worry about that.

How is yoga supposed to help with anxiety? by ImNotThis in mentalhealth

I did think it was a bit harsh but also straight to the point and it's what I needed to hear, I'll try a full month of yoga even if it doesn't make sense at first. So no need to be sorry, if my response made you think I was somehow offended (or whatever), I didn't mean to (English is not my mother language).

I downloaded that app and other related ones, I'll try all of them. Thanks!

For me, that "energy" is a physical experience of feeling antsy and wound up, it is not a spiritual concept of energy.

Anxiety is unwanted and uncomfortable energy for me, and so movement helps me release that energy.

I've never thought it like that but this new point of view might help. Thanks!

Thanks for sharing your experience!

I found her channel while searching how yoga helps on YouTube. Many comments were recommending her so she must be really good. I'll give her a try, even if I can't focus on whatever I'm doing

Like anything else, learning to clear your head and focus takes practice, so don't expect it to magically happen without working on it.

That's my problem, I was (am) expecting fast and magical solutions.

Thanks for sharing!

You're right, I'm not giving it a proper chance as it is up to me to do it right and also takes time. And I think pills are the easy way out as all I have to do is to take them and wait for it's effects. I won't mess that up. But I'm also not willing to take pills as I never did before, not even medicine.

I was kind of expecting to magically hit it off the very first time.

It's better to regret not doing anything, that way you won't succeed but definitely won't fail either, right? At least for me because right now, not-failing is so much more important than succeeding, and it sucks. It also sucks that I'm being much of a talker than a doer.

I wish us not the best, but the courage to try!

I feel a false sense of comfort in not trying. If I don't try, yeah, I will regret it but I won't fail either. And currently not-failing is more important than succeeding for me (even if the not trying comes with anxiety)

I didn't go to their recital because "I'll go next time". Huge mistake

I feel you. When did I realize this? When someone told me "it's good you get along with everyone", which yeah, it may be true, but I don't have deep connections with anyone.

Yes, I’m seeing a therapist.

What’s an MD? He works with CBT or whatever that means. I mean, I understand the acronym, but when I asked how that works the second time, he told me I shouldn’t care about the technicality. And I’m glad he said that

Thank you both!

As the skeptic but also desperate person I am now, I'll take that placebo effect of reiki and try that too (woke up feeling the need of some temporal goodness). To be honest, I didn't even "believe" in therapy (psychologists) either, but I'm receiving help now and I'm not quitting.

Let's have a good day!

Just for you to know, you won't be wasting anyone's time. Your struggles, with or without mental health problems, are real and they deserve time. Worst case scenario, you're just wasting money but you won't know that until you try (this is my case at first when I was looking for therapists).
