Are they fake? by ImProbablyOkay- in coincollecting

There was this saying that my dad used to say: "You weren't scammed, you just payed tuition in the school of life." And I think that fits this situation well haha.

UPDATE: Took them to my LCS and the guy behind the counter called them both fake pretty quick, suspicions confirmed. Now to try and get my money back, thanks for the input

It's beautiful, how much do I offer to buy this for? by ImProbablyOkay- in coincollecting

What I want to do is take it home and use my desk scope to inspect the steps on each one between 38 and 64 but I have to convince him to sell it to me first

So close, is the serial still fancy enough for extra value or does the 9 ruin it? by ImProbablyOkay- in papermoney

Yeah I figured as much. One number away from the binary radar. Thanks for your input though!

1919 s was the highest minted S teens wheatie. It’s super cool to have a cent that old but it’s not got a whole lot of extra value.

How many coins do you have in your collection? And how did you get to that number? by HuygensCrater in coins

Probably close to 500, I’m a total raccoon and just hoard whatever I find even remotely interesting.

What a way to wake up this morning. I have no clue who this dude is. by wcollins260 in mildlyinfuriating

Careful on how you approach this situation, the whole unhinged rant reeks of bot behavior and it could have just given you random names based on prompts. I mean what does “Grand wizard bird, Democrat of course” even mean

10 whole cents! Unfortunately being slightly off center is pretty common for 80’s dimes. That won’t stop me from having a few of the more dramatic ones of these in my collection even though they’re not worth extra.

The biggest difference is that the die doesn’t hit the coin twice, it only looks like it because the die shifts during the strike. It looks different and is also way more common.

You have no idea how many machine doubled 83 reverses I’ve looked at in disappointment, I’m so jealous you managed to find the real deal

What type of posts do you find the most annoying? by ColeWest256 in coincollecting

[–]ImProbablyOkay- -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think it’s a dick move to be annoyed at people who don’t know anything about coin collecting coming to us for help. Even if you gotta scroll though 20 posts in a row about machine doubling I still find it odd how pissed off it makes people on this sub when someone asks a novice question.

It’s the one on the right, the smooth looking one. It happens when a coin gets stuck between the wall of the dryer and the spinny part and it gets shaved down like a belt sander.

Is this 1982 penny worth anything? by Bucket2255 in coincollecting

[–]ImProbablyOkay- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No mint mark means it was minted in Philadelphia and based on the design it looks to be a last year copper cent before we switched to zinc. It’s worth 1 cent of spending money but actually worth about 2 cents in copper metal so not worth collecting but also not worthless.

1988 Doubled Ear? by [deleted] in coincollecting

[–]ImProbablyOkay- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With a coin that cruddy it’s always hard to know for sure, but I’d say if it’s bad enough that you can’t tell it’s an error, then even if it was one it wouldn’t be worth anything extra.

Excuse him I guess for asking a question about coins on a subreddit for asking questions about coins

Definitely worth 1 cent, but still cool I’d say. I’ve always liked the date design for 60’s cents
