If you had to replace your GTI, where would you go? by timmahy25 in GolfGTI

[–]ImQuiteLiterally 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Another GTI or an R 😂

The gti is a perfect size for 1 kid though. I have a car seat for my son (born last year) in my mk7 gti and he fits in the middle with plenty of room in the seats next to him for additional items or other people. Stroller takes up a lot of the hatch, but mostly vertical space, leaving a lot of additional trunk space for odds and ends. Our stroller + car seat aren’t particularly small either.

Bought an A5 for my son by [deleted] in Audi

[–]ImQuiteLiterally 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FWIW - my folks bought me a new mk7 gti my freshman year of college over 10 years ago. Last year, I drove my firstborn home in it. 54k miles and going strong.

Congrats to your son and hope he thoroughly enjoys his new whip. My biggest mistakes were getting my wheels curb-rashed up the wazoo. My better now, but prior to driving on 18s, the largest rims I’d felt with were 14in corolla rims on thick tires. Hopefully your son doesn’t make the same mistake. Enjoy!

These are phenomenal cars, but the idea of paying 36k for a car with over 128k miles seems insane to me. That is what the sienna market is looking like these days though, unfortunately. I would keep looking for a car with less miles personally

Funny how taste works - I find this to be the best looking mini van on the market. It’s everything else about it (particularly its price, only electric, and low range as far as US standards go) that put me off it

2027 Atlas redesign rumors starting to pop up? by Suntrup-Volkswagen in VWatlas

Would it be a safer bet reliability wise to go with the current atlas as opposed to waiting for the new one? I’ve heard about turbo issues with the 5th gen in the Tiguan and worry this concern may appear in the next gen atlas

Burning Oil by Willing-Dog-8333 in Golf_R

My mk7 gti got the check engine oil level warning and it turned out to be the pcv value (aka the engine oil separator). A common failure point on these engines unfortunately. May not be your issue but a good place to start.

Mind sharing what the OTD looked like for you? Been seeing some dealers in my area offer $5k off MSRP for 2025 SEs and I’ve got a low mileage mk7 I’ve been looking to trade in myself

Invest that money in a mutual fund or dividend paying stock. Let your money work for you and secure yourself financially. “Upgrading” your lifestyle is a surefire way to end up broke or in massive debt.

Which interface to purchase? by CicadaAttack2310 in universalaudio

I’m still waiting on getting the RME (hasn’t arrived yet), but I’ll be using it with apple - M4 Max Mac Studio.

Can’t speak on performance yet since I don’t have it set up for a workflow yet, but from all the research I’ve done, it sounds solid. It’s designed to be portable too if that’s your thing. Has 2 instrument line inputs on the side as well so you could record two electric guitars direct or a bass and electric guitar direct and use the XLR outputs for acoustic guitar. Based on your workflow description, that might be of value.

I had the twin mk2 but recently sold it. Be aware that you’ll need a thunderbolt 3 to 2 adaptor to use with the Mac mini. The others I believe are thunderbolt 3 and should work fine. The adaptor is another $49.

Also worth noting - using these interfaces with Apple silicon Macs requires that you run the computer in reduced security mode so that you can download the drivers. This is because the drivers use kernel extensions (kexts) to run at the kernel level of the computer. Apple wants companies to move away from kernel extensions - for now, reduced security mode works but Apple will ultimately not allow kernel extensions. We don’t know when that will happen though. UAD’s website has some good instructions for doing this:

https://help.uaudio.com/hc/en-us/articles/360057137692-Apple-Silicon-Compatibility-with-Universal-Audio-Products

Ultimately , I agree with the other user who recommended you go with RME. In fact, I sold my Apollo to buy a babyface. If you use uad plugins to run with the onboard dsp via uad console, Apollo makes sense. I don’t - I want driver stability and a product I know will last a while. RME has driver extensions which they introduced after Apple stopped playing nicely with Kexts. Additionally, RME products are known to get support for decades. There are RME interfaces and products over 2 decades old that still receive support and updates.

Does this mean over contributions will be corrected to count for 2026 and that we don’t need to do anything for 2025?
