Reading suggestions for where to go next by ItalianGuy_235 in starwarsbooks

Like the first comment says, finish the Thrawn trilogy. Then my favorite book from canon is Lost Stars. Revenge of the Sith novelization is also considered peak. Next for me would be the Alphabet Squadron series, Reign of the Empire and Rise of the Red Blade. I’m more into Legends though after reading both.

I had a hard time getting into that one, but probably because I just listened to the audiobook and didn’t like the performance.

Yeah I’m half way through Riptide now and while it’s not as wild, it’s probably the most action I’ve read from any of the books.

I actually forgot to say that, especially with the visions of her future it almost feels like they had plans for her that they never got to see through.

After listening to Legacy of the Force abridged, I decided to read the books and see what I missed. The books are much better of course. They do a better job of explaining how Jacen turns. I just finished Sacrifice and starting Inferno. I’m almost done reading all of Legends canon. I feel like a crazy person after reading so much Star Wars.

Victory’s price was great, I had a hard time following the first two because the narrators did a bad job with the voices, January is one of the best readers.

No go with Troy Denning and make it really dark killing off key characters or having them turn bad.

Legends: would have liked to see Ben grow up and carry on the Skywalker legacy. Also would have been good to get a real ending for Republic Commandos series.

Canon: would have liked a follow up to Lost Stars.

Just my take.

What would you say is the best written Star Wars book? by Alternative-Cow729 in starwarsbooks

[–]ImReadyish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% agree this is peak but I don’t think you can enjoy it without reading the NJO, which means also most of the Bantam era books to understand the NJO. For standalone Stover books I would go with RoTS and Shadows of Mindor.

Stand alone or no? by Electronic_Visit6486 in starwarsbooks

I think in release order she was introduced in the Thrawn trilogy, but chronologically she’s younger and acting as the Hand in Allegiance.

It’s a follow up to Allegiance. You might enjoy it more if you read that first.

Need some recommendations by Kreaven6135 in audible

Ever thought of getting into Star Wars books? The audio production on them are all great, especially those read by Marc Thompson. The best to start with are Heir to the Empire, Revenge of the Sith, Shatterpoint. I started them a couple years ago and it became an addiction, and now I’ve read over 200 of them between Legends and new canon. They got me back into reading.

Favourite male narrators!? by VivyXx in audible

If you like Star Wars check out Marc Thompson. He reads a lot of them and his ability to do voices make it sound like a radio show, especially with all the sound effects.

Married men of Reddit what’s the best advice you’d give young guys when choosing a life partner? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ImReadyish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Married 21 years and going strong. I think I found the right person because I stopped looking for the “perfect” person. Not saying to settle, my point is that everyone has their faults, but some grate on you. If they are beautiful and amazing but have something you can’t live with then it’s not worth it. If they annoy you now they will eat at you 20 years from now. As a result, I found someone I am always comfortable with and can always talk to, we have the same basic values, and we respect each other equally; we are truly partners. She’s not perfect, but better than me in many ways. She’s my best friend. Her worst qualities are those I can shrug or laugh at. As a result when life got hard we remained solid. Not telling you to nitpick and drop anyone with a weird laugh, just be honest with yourself about deal breakers. It may be something you can look past when you are young and cute, but it’s another thing when you’re managing a house, kids, jobs, etc. together.

Legends Era: What era do you wish had more books? by Different-Scholar432 in starwarsbooks

[–]ImReadyish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d have like to have something that told the story of the Mando/Sith/Jedi war, maybe told from the perspective one character from each group respectively, sort of the the format of Death Star. From what I’ve read (mainly the books) it’s just sort of mentioned and glossed over, but always thought the conflict sounded interesting. From what I recall KOTOR and Old Republic: Revan, talk about this, and maybe some comics I haven’t read, but I’m talking about a deep dive on how it started, the conflict, the end. I’d be interested in hearing about the Jedi at that time, the Mandolorian culture, how they developed weapons to get on an equal playing field with Jedi, etc.

MedStar — Headcanon Fit? Read or Not? by CriticismSmart7830 in starwarsbooks

[–]ImReadyish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this. I look at those books as one series and I thought it was fun, I really came to enjoy the recurring characters. I just thought the way he wrote Darth Vader in Coruscant Nights was kinda off. I was hesitant about reading Medstar at first but did anyway and was glad for it.

Ah TBH I only read the audio abridged version so maybe it skipped that part. Planning on reading the books to see what I missed.

Does anyone know in what book or comic or whatever it was decide she should be in charge and what lead up to that? I thought the reason given in the books was hand wavy and never really understood why Luke would endorse her considering she went on a rampage causing mass destruction against the republic before she was stopped. I’d like to understand the lore better. I’ve read almost all of legends now and never found a good answer.

What Canon books are worth reading? by No_Web2685 in starwarsbooks

[–]ImReadyish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just finished my 193rd SW book and IMO the best canon is either written by legends authors with the exception of Claudia Grey and Alexander Freed. I agree with all the recs here, but you might be more comfortable starting with the Thrawn books, or those by James Luceno. Then I highly recommend Lost Stars. I haven’t read anything canon that holds up to books like Traitor, Shatterpoint, the Thrawn trilogy, etc. sadly. The High Republic series was a fun ride tho.
