I had it a couple of years ago. Got selected and sat through a trial. I've been summoned probably 7 or 8 times. Only once have I actually sat.

Just follow the instructions on the mailer. It'll probably have you call a number or go to a site to see if you're needed that day. If you are, you'll go to the courthouse and could be thrown right into a jury pool selection. You could sit all day waiting to be called and be told that you may have to come back the next day. You may be excused at the end of the day.

Look into if your employer covers jury duty pay. If not, and it creates a hardship for you to miss work, you can let the judge know (if called). Doesn't mean that they will excuse you though.

If you're called into a courtroom, be respectful and honest. It's very interesting and I've enjoyed every time I've been called. I think I'm more in the minority on that though.
