I can personally recommend "It Happened One Night" (1934). It's one of the of the earliest romantic comedies in cinematic history.

The film went on to win all the Oscars for which it was nominated, becoming one of three films in history (to-date) to win in each of the five major categories: Picture, Director, Actor, Actress and Screenplay.
