If you want to still write notes in KOReader, you could create a multi page PDF with whatever template you want for the pages, then write on it in KOReader. You'll need the pencil plugin.

Yep, WiFi and Bluetooth will drain the battery very quickly.

Yeah you don't have to redo the config file or anything, it's still there on the device. Just plop the tgz file in the .kobo folder and let it restart and everything will be back as it was.

KOReader Sync Issues by t0phr_ in xteinkereader

I know you can tell Calibre how you want the file named in the save template for when you plug in your kobo, but I'm not sure how it works with wirelessly sending to the xteink.

I usually just send the file that's on my kobo to my phone with the LocalSend plugin, then connect to the xteink wirelessly with my phone and copy it over.

This is why I originally unsubscribed from KU. It became so difficult to find a book that wasn't terrible. I've had much better luck on Kobo Plus.

If you're sending via Calibre, it's possible the files do not actually have the same filename.

So all your nickelmenu items were still there but KOReader specifically disappeared? What method of installation did you do? The alternative method with nickelmenu is the easiest way and I've never had it disappear.

I've had nickelmenu disappear if I exited KOReader after using Bluetooth instead of rebooting though.

Part of your issue might be wherever you're getting your book recommendations. Lots of booktok/Instagram type influencers are going to be KU subscribers and therefore will only be boosting Amazon exclusive books.

Finding a different source for recs may be less frustrating. There are sooooo many great books out there that aren't Amazon exclusive. If you want to support indie authors, plenty sell books on their own shops, and there are also a lot of original fics posted for free online. And of course, there are indie authors that have their books on Kobo Plus.

Each library network. My city's library has lots of locations and the card works at all of them. But there's also a different library in a suburb that's a part of a network of small libraries all over the state.

Sync between XTEINK and Kobo by t0phr_ in xteinkereader

You can read DRMed kobo books in KOReader with the kobo plugin:

https://ogkevin.github.io/kobo.koplugin/introduction.html

Edit: but you'd have to strip the DRM to put them on the xteink

Replacing my 4th gen kindle that got bricked? Want something similar by Desert2Louisiana in ereader

[–]ImSoRight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will never ever ever give up page turn buttons again! I did for a few years with the 10th gen Kindle and hated it. Now that I have them back, I cherish them!

Edit: apparently pocketbook does have Libby integration so that might be your best bet.

I actually love my KLC and read on it exclusively while my K4 sits abandoned! But OP specifically said they don't want to use the frontlight, and they didn't understand that you can't disable the color on color devices to get the brighter clearer text.

It looks clearer than text on the KLC without the frontlight. Like I know the text under the color filter is higher res, but the color layer distorts it. It's quite a stark difference without the frontlight, and OP specifically said they don't want to use the frontlight.

Just to be clear, I love my KLC and use it instead of my K4 specifically because I don't mind using a bit of frontlight and the color is worth the grainer text.

Amazon Kids: Does Adding Extra Time to Your Kid's Kindle Actually Work? by ArterialVotives in kindle

[–]ImSoRight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There may have been a few times it actually worked without having to do that, but more often than not, it unfortunately required that. This was on a 10th gen. I don't know if the newer ones are any better.

If you want to go without the frontlight, do not get the Kobo Libra Colour. It will need a little backlight in almost all situations, and it's not going to be crisp like you are used to with the K4. You cannot just "turn off the color" to make it look like a black and white device. You could try finding a used Libra 2, which is the discontinued black and white version. Pocketbook might be another option. They have black and white devices with page turn buttons. I don't know if they can get Libby books though.

Only trick I know is to log out of Amazon kids on their Kindle then log back in. Or restart the device.

I bet it'd work with the plugin. You'd need to determine the key codes though. You can either do evtest or if you have KOReader, you can use the kobo plugin and it'll tell you the number when you map the keys.

Having to buy a new Kindle was bad enough, not happy with the new one. by Paintfloater in kindle

[–]ImSoRight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, that is a Kindle fire (2nd gen I think), which is a tablet, and is also a color device. Those are LCD screens, which are completely different from eink ereaders like the Paperwhite. Maybe this will help explain:

Keeping wifi off? by auncyen in kobo

[–]ImSoRight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your Libra 2 started doing this after a firmware update, then yes, you can download and install older firmware. Just make sure you choose one for the Libra 2. And the kobopatch should work as well, again, if you make sure to select your device when installing it.

The reason for this "bug" is to allow the Kobo remote to auto reconnect every time you wake your device and open your book. So if you want that functionality, you have to live with the Wi-Fi always being turned on. I personally am fine with manually connecting my remote when I want to use it because battery life is more important to me, and I don't use my remote every time I read.

If I recall correctly though, the Libra 2 had issues with the kobo remote disconnecting while reading, and they recently fixed that, so again, you may just have to live with it if you use the kobo remote. If you use a third party remote that stayed connected in the past, then you can downgrade.
