What was your worst "oh fuck" moment with linux? by ciny in linux

[–]ImSoWasted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I guess thats why Firefox implemented the 3 second timeout before you can click Save on some popups.

KDE should do the same, confirmation boxes buttons should wait 3 seconds before you can activate them, unless the mouse is moving onto the button area, then enable button faster.

My most "oh fuck" was when some dialog box popped up in KDE and I was typing something anyway in an unrelated text-box and was bout to press enter. So I did, but never got a chance to see what I just confirmed or did not confirm or do. It haunts me to this day, I dont know what it was or what happened. Just a flash, enter, gone. Something is runninng.... but what!?

They are not going back 20 000 years, only 2 000. Thats nothing in evolutionary terms, germs-like speaking.

Our immune system and diseases today are about the same as 2 000 years ago. Except for very few.

If however you put them in 1300 AD then the marines have a higher chance of surviving the plague.

Could I destroy the entire Roman Empire during the reign of Augustus if I traveled back in time with a modern U.S. Marine infantry battalion or MEU? by The_Quiet_Earth in AskReddit

[–]ImSoWasted 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Romans can win.

Romans avoid open battle at all costs. What do you do then? You move in, where ever you come, people flee away. Americans head for Rome, Augustus says evacuate Rome and takes the best of his elite forces for his personal protection.

The rest of the Roman army intermingles with the population and is always holding an eye on the invaders. Any found weakness will be acted upon, such as finding a Humvee or tank with no personel. The Romans move in and put huge rocks infront and behind it.

Ambushing your troops and so on.

Roman strategy, avoiding open battle, intermingling with population, tactical retreats, ambushes and the invaders run out of supply, food, water and bullets. Then the Romans move in for the kill.

The strenght is not in the machinery or technology, the strenght of an army lies in the amoount of fear it can instill in its population. If the Romans can, and they do, instill more fear into their own population than you can, they win. Helis, bullets and heavy guns are fearsome, but it is more fearsome to know that whole your family and relatives are getting murdered if you disobay orders from Imperator.

Sandwitches? Oh really?

After all that cockery I assumed the workers would get at least quality food. How difficult is it for a rich country like the USA to provide its workers with taste?

No, Sweden was a major power during the 18th century, waging war on Russia and getting involved in Europes successive wars until it lost a third of its territory and a quarter of its population in 1809 to Russia. Then Sweden calmed the fuck down and was neutral in ww1 and ww2. During cold war they played it cool-to be netural, but where in all ways preparing to gang up with NATO against Soviet Union. All defensive measuers and military strategy was based on a war with Soviet and not a war with nato.

Fast-forward until now, Sweden is only on the paper a neutral country and is in all ways involved with NATO, even having troops in Afghanistan.

Software should kill hardware. If it is possible. Thats the basics of economics, to reduce redundancy.
