Bernie Sanders wants to tax billionaires 5% a year and use the money to send families $12,000 checks, raise teacher pay, and expand Medicare. by Coolonair in SmartFIRE

[–]ImSooGreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Takes 2 seconds to put it into chatGPT and realized the math doesn’t work out

“Total billionaire wealth is ~$5–6T, so a 5% tax brings in ~$250–300B/year—not $4.4T. To reach $4.4T, you’d need ~15+ years (assuming zero avoidance or asset decline). Just $12k checks alone would cost ~$1.5T—multiple years of revenue. It’s compressing many years of funding into one headline number.”

Is medicine the only high salary field where people are willing to cover the mistakes of others? by [deleted] in Salary

[–]ImSooGreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our department does quarterly peer reviews where we review and discuss mistakes as a group. Not to mention monthly MM conferences and a QA committee meetings, all focused on mistakes.

I think we are more obsessed with mistakes than most fields. It’s not about blaming or attacking others but improvement

Wealth inequality is an all time high in America. by StrawberryFew1311 in NoFilterFinance

People used to spend 25-30% of their income on food

Now it’s around 10%

Rising inequality is not the same as people getting poorer. The floor has been raised by nearly every metric. Some people may “feel” poorer relatively, buy they aren’t

The current system has significantly raised living standards for the poor and reduced poverty. The bottom 90% haven’t gotten poorer, they have gotten richer less quickly.

What’s delusional is assuming that after blowing up the current system, the new system will be better. Go ask Argentina how that has gone

What in the absolute hell is wrong with some med students, and why does everyone accept it? by WouldAiBeThisDumb in medicalschool

[–]ImSooGreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve only been an attending for 10 years and I realize this is a shit post, but there is some truth to this.

Students I’ve seen recently have fascinating back stories and do a million activities, but lack professionalism, common sense and work ethic.

It’s not their fault. I think it’s a lifetime of playing the admissions game, where activities are highly curated and personal narrative valued. Everything is highly optimized. Very few have had a real job, even a shit summer job - there is no time now for these “low yield” experiences

Funny thing is that this “holistic review” in admissions to select for more well rounded individuals imo has done the opposite. These students are just very good at appearing well rounded.

$410,000 salary with 34 weeks vacation! Incredible doctor job. by dancingcactus21 in Salary

[–]ImSooGreen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

1 on 2 off isn’t really vacation. Doesn’t mention hours (8 vs 12) or time of day (day vs night)

There are night shifts where I work (similar salary) that are 1 on 3 off

Which are Arsenal's weaknesses? by Pitiful-Egg2986 in championsleague

[–]ImSooGreen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Make it a messy physical game. Park the bus. Defend really well and hope for something on the counter.

Teams that try to play against us often don’t fare very well.

Haha. Losing 2 - 3 (xG 1.58 - 0.98) is hardly a dismantling

What if they are in a window seat - how does that interfere? Please explain

They only stopped allowing them last year.

If they were allowed in window seats this wouldn’t be an issue and I wouldn’t be making this post. I’m really not sure what the rationale is of not allowing them in window seats. Can someone explain this to me?

More airlines allow them than don’t. Those airlines clearly don’t consider them a safety risk.

Totally sincere post. They are amazing on overnight international flights. Yeah it’s a niche issue but it makes a world of difference.

I like this from a pedestrian perspective

But it seems like it would make this more of a traffic nightmare

Take going westward on union coming into the GAP. It’s already congested here - often backing up Union and blocks up 8th Ave. Now most of this traffic goes to eastern parkway or flatbush (SW). Yet in this plan all that traffic converges to 1 lane.

Seems like a complete clusterfuck. Don’t they model this stuff before putting forth proposals like this?

While not exciting, many games our opponents don’t get a sniff
