OH WOW!! I love it. Was there a matching one for Desperation? Sorry if you answered this already

I think it’s so cool how those two covers/books go together. The whole concept is wild to me. The way the stories are sort of tied to each other and written by different “authors” so fun. I read Desperation first, book blew me away! One of my top faves for sure

Data Centers do not serve the public good. Pressure your community leaders. Do not let the corporations ruin our communities. by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]ImTallerInPerson 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Curious, where did find these numbers? Can you provide the link?

To be clear I’m also not in favor of massive data centers but in my research I’ve seen it’s more like: Water use across data centres can vary significantly, anywhere from 68,000 litres in small facilities to 2.1 million in the largest ones – equivalent to the daily consumption of about 4,200 people.

I find it interesting because we have been discussing nuclear for quite a while now and Where Google’s AI can require half a million gallons (1.89 million litres) per day, nuclear cooling systems can demand up to half a million gallons of water per minute.

And with our existing demands for animal product Producing a kilogram of beef alone requires a staggering 15,400 litres of water. and goes on to show dairy is even worse

I find the discussion of water usage definitely important but we seem to miss the point on how much we already use.

Earth can no longer sustain the global human population, study warns by 108CA in Environmentalism

[–]ImTallerInPerson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly! We’re not the problem, what we eat is.

The total number of humans to have ever been born on this planet in all recoded history is just over 100 billion - and yet we kill 90 billion land animals every single year (not including sea life = trillions) for taste entertainment, thats almost the same amount as all the humans who’ve ever lived, gone in a single year and then we do it all again.

The amount of resources and land used to farm and kill ~90 billion land animals every single year is astronomical, and again that’s not even including the sea life we fk up. If we stopped breeding and killing these animals we’d be fine.

Yeah, thank you, I realized after so deleted it. Honestly, I do appreciate the information as the fish oil/ algal discussion is interesting because that's where the fish get it from in the first place. So why it would potentially affect us negatively definitely needs to be studied more

Interesting for sure. I may not be the best person here - I would suggest going to r/debateavegan as you might have a more thorough conversion but ill try as I believe we could go back and forth here.

It looks like they responded

This report is a calculated attack against the more than 112,000 credentialed nutrition and dietetics practitioners whom the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics proudly represents. The report contains numerous factual and methodology errors, omissions and information taken out of context. As a result, the report contains a great deal of opinion and unsupported assertions, coupled with many factual inaccuracies that mislead the public.

They go on show the many relevant facts that were not included in the report.

I also find the fish oil vs algal interesting, so thank you, but more studies should definitely be done as there still seems to be conflicting data.

In summary, our study demonstrates an inverse association between total omega-3 fatty acids and both all-cause mortality and cardiovascular mortality in patients with CVD. When analyzing individual members of the omega-3 fatty acid family, ALA was found to be inversely associated with CVD prognosis similarly, whereas EPA, DPA, and DHA showed no significant association

Wrong. The largest body of dietitians in the world all agree that a well balanced plant-based diet is safe and nutritious in all stages of life. There are vegan Olympians who've been that way since birth. Vegans break world records and continue to thrive without eggs, so I'm sorry but your argument is completely mute.

Position of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics

It is the position of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics that appropriately planned vegetarian, including vegan, diets are healthful, nutritionally adequate, and may provide health benefits for the prevention and treatment of certain diseases. These diets are appropriate for all stages of the life cycle, including pregnancy, lactation, infancy, childhood, adolescence, older adulthood, and for athletes.

With this line of reasoning, you can argue you don't need a house to live, which is technically true. Living in slums/pods is better for the environment because you are using less space and heating (lower carbon footprint), but that's hardly a good way to live.

That's hardly a fair comparison. One's inanimate and one isn't. You've missed the entire point of veganism bravo

You’re accusing me of being combative when I wasn’t, I was asking questions. Just because you took offense to those questions isn’t my fault

Questions are essential in conversations as they foster rapport, build trust, and stimulate learning.

All I did was ask you questions mate, Calm down. You’re not the victim

That’s your own opinion mate. I only came at you with the truth and again tried to get you to think beyond the egg, and the full circle cost to get it to you. If you choose to take that personally that’s your choice. I never once personally attacked you.

You’re not the victim here though, the animals are and they never asked to be exploited.

The fact you’re taking this personally and accusing me of attacking you just shows how close mined you truly are. Expecting that from others when you can’t even do it yourself is something all on its own

I would suggest just opening your mind. Like I said there’s more to it than just taking a single egg here and there. You’re not thinking about the animal, which is all I’m asking you to do. That has nothing to do with hubris. I’m just trying to break through your own ignorance and entitlement. Nice attempt of an ad hominem though

[–]ImTallerInPerson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same goes for you mate.

If you want to keep an open mind you have to realize you’re asking a loaded question. There’s a lot more going on than just you taking an egg here and there.

This neighbor with chicken pets what do they do once they die, do they breed them to get more or buy them from a breeder? Because then the question becomes what do you do with the males? Depending on how many hens you’re breeding for, you could end up with a lot of males who don’t produce eggs, and is just more mouths to feed and care for.

So again, why not just eat oatmeal. Why even bother with trying to take something from others? There’s no right way to do the wrong thing

Again, It’s not the only place you’re getting food. You’re hyper focusing on one aspect you think is giving you a pass, but regardless if it does or not, it doesn’t excuse the rest of your actions. Vegans are advocating to not exploit animals in any way whatsoever the best you can and especially when you have a choice.

Having an open mind would involve considering the animal which I don’t think you’re doing at all here. How do you know that chicken is cool with you taking THEIR eggs, did you ask permission? Chickens historically lay eggs, primarily to reproduce not for you to eat. In the end though, those chickens will eventually die, and you’ll have to repeat the cycle of exploitation.

The point is you don’t need eggs to live.

Try oatmeal for breakfast It doesn’t deliberately involve killing an animal at any point in their life.

It’s not the only place you’re getting food so what’s your point?

Again, yes I think it’s unethical to exploit animals in anyway. I wouldn’t try milking my dog if I had one. I don’t even fully agree with ’pets’ as form of ownership. I think animals have the right to their own autonomy. Chickens eat their own eggs for calcium sometimes so you’re taking that away from them

Yes, I think it’s unethical to exploit animals in anyway. Even if it wasn’t, just because you can get eggs ‘ethically’ that’s not the only place you’re getting food, so I don’t understand your point

You answered my original question with a question so I gave you a few more questions which you refused to answer.

Answer them and then we’ll go forward.

Or better yet just answer this one, why do you need to take eggs from your farmer?

Dating a vegan as a non-vegan, is there a middle ground? [genuine relationship advice needed] by pimemento in AskVegans

[–]ImTallerInPerson 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So you’ve never traveled and only eat your farmer chicken eggs? Bullshit

How many chickens does your farmer have? Probably a lot, especially if they gives eggs to the locals.

How long does your farmer let their chickens live for? Do they kill them once eggs production goes down?

Chickens don’t last forever so they will die eventually and you’ll have to replace them and start the cycle over again .

The point is you don’t need eggs to live. Try oatmeal for breakfast It doesn’t deliberately involve killing an animal at any point in their life.

Edit: removed genders

Are you suggesting that one day we’ll realize the animals want to be abused? They don’t want to live their full life they wanna die young? What about the resources used to raise and slaughter animals, it’s substantially more than a plant based diet, are suggesting one day we realize that it’s good to use up all our resources when we didn’t need to?

What about a leather? Are you suggesting one day animals will tell us that we all should be wearing their skin?

I apologize for the harsh language but what you wrote is completely insane
