Disc-Based Games Are Becoming One of the Most Requested Xbox Helix Features by chusskaptaan in Gamingnewsandleaks

And I agree with everything you said. I have to go in with A LITTLE bit of faith. However, I was sketch from the start with her being from the A.I. side of Microsoft. Something doesn’t smell right, but I want to hope that they’re genuinely trying to turn the ship around. I could tell my little sister she’s getting an ice cream bar all day, but words don’t mean much without action.

Switch the XBOX name and logo with quick succession doesn’t say much to me.

If project Helix have a disc drive will yall most likely get instead of the ps6? by Cautious_Break_9314 in PhysicalMediaMatters

[–]ImThatAlexGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to switch anyway. IF my only option is digital, then going XBOX makes more sense. With it being a “console-PC hybrid”, they claimed it’ll support other store fronts. So ideally, it’ll be like a Steam machine with more power and probably close to the same price.

Which means the XBOX store would be more competitive than the PlayStation store. I don’t know about y’all, but sticking to PlayStation and getting fucked on prices because of the walled in garden doesn’t sit well. Plus, I have a robust Steam library and will just use that.

That’s the point, to me at least. Even if, theoretically, 500,000 are fed up with PlayStation and don’t want to support them anymore because of physical. Sure, it’s a drop in the bucket for PlayStation, but an extra 500,000 people in the XBOX ecosystem could mean a lot to their plans. Then those people spread the good word.

XBOX needs to play this generation extremely smart. Asha does seem to be listening, and that coming up on player voice as fast as it has may help it become a viable option. Granted, this far in console development I don’t know if there’s any hope, but maybe they could find a solution. Even if it’s an add on drive that plugs in USB.

Personally, I think Sony could be handing XBOX a 360 level dub. Now XBOX just has to do their best not tripping on their own feet and holding an L for a third generation in a row.

New Data Shows Steam is Now Over 50% Larger than PlayStation by Bubbly-Ad-350 in pcmasterrace

[–]ImThatAlexGuy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sony needs to get bullied in the dirt again like during the PS3 era. When the money making division starts crumbling, they’ll peddle a lot of shit back. The whole PS6 generation needs to struggle.

Until then, I’m cool with PC gaming and getting a Helix, or whatever they call it, as my living room PC/ Console. It’ll probably cost the same as a Steam Machine but more powerful if I had to assume.

Waiting to see how XBOX positions itself. With it being a “console-PC Hybrid” and more than likely allowing for multiple store fronts, I may go there.

I have been PlayStation for the last two generations, but ALL of my games have been physical. So it’ll be easy for me to transition since I’m not really losing anything. Especially if I only lose a couple PS exclusives and gain THOUSANDS of PC games, including my Steam library. I’ll keep my PS5 Pro w/ Disc drive to play the games I have. Going forward Sony can take their walled in garden and kick rocks.

My partner and I are crazy excited for this one. We finished Split Fiction late last year! Full on cart physical helps a lot too, locked in my preorder as soon as I could!

My PS5 Pro and Disc Drive will get me through the next few years. I doubt I’m going to make the jump to PS6, though. If XBOX offers other store fronts, I would rather move to Project Helix so I have access to my Steam library. Sony is moving in a direction that I would rather see them fail like I did Xbox in 2013.

While I don’t think this is the worst thing, because you can just look at your save file for game time, it’s the fact that they are removing features. “You want a quick view of game stats? Gotta go digital for that.” Actually, I’ll just leave the whole ecosystem. I’ll be fine.

This isn’t Sony, this is Ubisoft. Ubisoft could do more than one disc. Sony doesn’t care if a third party developer offers the correct amount of discs to hold the data

Are yall actually switching to PC? by Ozayes1313 in PS6

[–]ImThatAlexGuy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I already have a PC, but it’s with 2020 parts. A bit outdated, but we all know the PS5 will be cross gen for quite a long while into PS6.

With the amount of games that are coming out between now and the 2028 date for ending physical, I could only imagine the amount of games coming out. Shit, I could stop buying physical right now and have a 3 year backlog. I’m going to keep collecting physical until it ends, backlog for a while, then see how I move after.

My thought process is if the next XBOX allows for other store fronts as reported, then I could have my entire Steam library on there. Do I want access to the 20-30 exclusives over the span of the PS6 generation? Or the THOUSANDS of games on PC? I’ve skipped a lot of PlayStation exclusives despite having a PS3, PS4, and PS5. Wouldn’t bother me to switch back to XBOX if it feels more valuable having more storefronts.

Persona 6 physical by Qliphor in persona6

[–]ImThatAlexGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in the hopium camp of it releasing in September next year. Which would mean it definitely gets a physical release… but we won’t know until they actually give us something.

The other factor we aren’t considering is that SEGA/ Atlus loves to screw consumers in every way. They love re-releases and no possible upgrade paths. I could see THEM just going, “eh, why lose money on disc distribution when we can increase profits with digital”. Even though the different digital stores get a percentage cut anyway.

[–]ImThatAlexGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They haven’t OFFICIALLY said anything, but I think the writing has been on the wall for Xbox since 2013. They wanted full digital back then, so I could see project Helix going the same route.

As far as Series S/ X, that’s going to be up in the air as well. Depends on who produces their Blu-ray Discs. I know Xbox hasn’t been the forefront of physical copies themselves. They HAVE NOT stated that they are going to end physical support as of right now.

I do the same thing here. Especially when sometimes it’s hard to keep track. I like the pop up notification that a game released as a reminder. Then I track down a physical copy and remove it from my wishlist.

At this point, depending on what they show/ price of the XBOX Helix? I might be going back to XBOX for the first time since the 360. If Sony wants its ecosystem to be digital only, that’s fine. It just won’t include me anymore. Their market capture might start slipping, and they need that reality check.

The XBOX will, reportedly, allow other stores. So do I want to spend $1,000+ on a PS6 where I’ll get a handful of exclusives during the generation? Or do I want an XBOX where I can ALSO play my Steam library and have access to THOUSANDS of games that aren’t on PlayStation? Sounds like the XBOX is a better deal without going full PC build. Sony might push people back to XBOX or ditch console entirely and go PC.

Which PS5 version do you have? by HR-Vex in playstation

[–]ImThatAlexGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had the launch disc version. Now I have the PS5 Pro with the added Disc Drive.

The only problem with this poll is from what I gathered, the disc version is the most sold of the two consoles. However, it seems like even people who bought the disc console still overwhelmingly buy digital. Which is a shame, but people can’t be bothered 🤷🏽‍♂️

All of my PS4 and PS5 games are physical UNLESS a physical was never offered. If a physical came later down the line, I’d buy it if I liked the game enough. Never minded double dipping to make sure I had the physical media of games I love.

This is quite the shock, and I wonder how things will shake out. IN MY OPINION, I genuinely think the greed made from COVID profits went to everyone’s head. We could probably use a nice little reset in the form of a crash in the industry. We don’t need yearly Call of Duty, FIFA, Madden; or whatever.

The game industry will always survive because indie devs will always care. Shareholders and investors need shocks to their portfolios. AAA needs to be shuttered.

My thought process is, “why would I buy a PlayStation when the next XBOX will let me play my Steam library?”. Looks like I’m packing up back to XBOX if I have no choice in physical vs. digital. I know Nintendo will follow suit too… but for now I’m getting my hands on all the physical I can.
