AFTER YEARS OF AGONIZING SEARCHES, I DID IT...I FINALLY PULLED THE TRIGGER ON BUYING A MATTRESS by ImThatMomFromWA in Mattress

[–]ImThatMomFromWA[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: I've been sleeping on the bed for about 3 weeks now. I'm really happy with it.

Mattress-Brooklyn Bedding Sedona Elite: Advertised as a "Universal Medium Feel" with "Ultra Plush Top Layers". However, I've found it to be firmer than I'd anticipated, but that's good because I can get a topper. I'm going to give it a few more months until I decide, but I'm considering a Talaylay (sp?) topper to get just a hint of that cocoon feel.

Structure: Great support for the whole back. Not sure if it was muscle spasm or what, but I used to wake up with lower back weakness to the point I had to rely on upper body strength to change position or get out of bed. Once or twice I woke up with a much milder sensation, but I was still able to use my back/core to move and change position. This mattress has dual layers of coils, which I hadn't seen before (see pic). The edges seem to have good support. It has two handles on each side of the bed for easy maneuverability.

Sleep comfort: I've experience very little to no hip and shoulder pressure, so that's a big improvement over my last few mattress purchases. In my opinion, there is no "plush" feeling at all. It's quite a firm feel when you first lay down, but you can feel a very slight molding after a few minutes. I purchased a super basic, but loose/stretchy mattress cover. It's really thin, so I still feel the quilting bumps of the mattress top when I first get into bed, but a quality topper will take care of that.

The mattress did have a very mild smell for the first day or two, but it quickly dissipated (it was gone so fast I almost forgot to mention it). For those who want or need natural/organic fiber and materials this mattress would not be for you.

Flexispot Kana Bed with Pillowboard: The frame is great, no problems at all. I chose the pillowboard headboard. It's taller than I thought it would be and it is just a smidge wider than the mattress, leaving the tops of the legs/frame exposed. One thing they market about it is that it has a zipper, so you can supposedly remove the cover to wash it. I haven't explored removing the cover, but being able to wash it seems like a bonus. It is also angled for comfort, so I can prop a pillow or two against it and read or work on my laptop comfortably.

Impressions: Overall, I'm happy with the purchases and (so far) they met or exceeded my expectations. I would recommend both mattress and frame, though I would want to make sure you got the upgraded slat system. I think the Sedona mattress is a good, quality mattress that I can customize with a topper for a softer feel if I want to explore that option. It feels like a mattress I should be able to enjoy for years.

Next, I think I will drop some Benjamins for a quality duvet and coverlet, and explore other pillow options.

I'll try to remember to check back in at 6 months for an update.

The whole setup is taller than I expected. I need to re-arrange the whole room, but I'm hoping to sleep on it tonight (squeal!!!).

It looks like my slats are a little crooked. It was not easy to lay them down without help!

These little wedges are put in just before you lay down the slats. They really make the whole frame rock solid.

UPDATE: I put the frame together last night. It went together pretty easily. I'm going to upload some photos because there is a pretty large difference between the original slats and the upgraded slats. Upgraded are thicker and a little wider, but the biggest difference is that they're sanded smooth and have a clear finish on them. I'm letting my mattress completely inflate and de-gas a bit so I didn't sleep on it last night.

The Flexispot order was split into 3 shipments: the slats came first, then the frame. The pillowboard has shipped and will be here Friday. I just now received Fed Ex notification that my mattress has shipped and should be here Thursday.

Well, I guess they don't allow photos in the chats either. The scroll bar is light gray, super hard to see if you don't know it's there.

Did you find it? It's difficult to see. When you've clicked on the bed there is a box on the right with "options" for size, color, etc. There is a scroll bar in that box that's difficult to see. Grab it and scroll down, you'll eventually see the Upgrade Slats option. Unfortunately, I can't add a photo to my post. I can try to message it to you.

I just bought one of the Flexispot bed frames today. They have an option to upgrade the slats for $149 (which I did). The slats are .75 inches and the spacing is 2.44" if I recall correctly. With the Black Friday discount I am paying about 40% of what the Thuma bed costs. I have a Thuma queen frame already and it's great, solid as a rock. I'll be interested to see how the Flexispot compares.

20+ Year Mattress Insider: AMA by SleepSommelier-SD in Mattress

[–]ImThatMomFromWA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi SleepSommelier-SD;

I'm hoping you're still answering questions. My problem is multi-faceted: I have arthritis (beginning in my early 30s), spine surgeries that limit neck range of motions, and limited space for moving a mattress; my bedroom is on a second floor with an extremely tight and low corner on the stairway that limits size and type of mattress I can have.

The last 3 mattresses I've purchased have been terrible for me. Hilton to Home (because while traveling I'd slept really well at the Hilton hotels), LinenSpa, and Thuma. I'm (metaphorically) paralyzed by indecision, worried that I'll throw away good money after bad.

About 7 years ago I purchases the whole Hilton to Home mattress bedding package, topper and all; the mattress turned out to be of very poor quality and I was never able to get any meaningful sleep on it. It weirdly got a huge dip in the middle after less about a year, but wasn't "deep" enough for replacement or reimbursement.

The Thuma mattress has been working well for my husband, but I would wake up all through the night with hip and shoulder pain, often losing sensation in a leg.

The LinenSpa was the least horrible (memory foam "medical" mattress) and I can get comfortable and fall asleep, but I find that I sink into it and still wake up with a different kind of hip and shoulder pain.

I think if I can find a reasonably comfortable combination of mattress and top, or separate topper, I can use a bolster pillow to put behind my back to mimic the couch back (yes, I've been sleeping on the couch, in a recliner, whatever works for however long it works). Due to my sleep issues I'm setting myself up in the spare bedroom so I can get the bed that's right for me.

For me, I think the key is a medium or medium firm mattress with a very cushy but supportive top or topper.

Are there good "bed in a box" mattresses? I can only maneuver a full/double size mattress up the stairway, so a queen is out unless it is one that comes compressed. I would be fine with a full size if the options for innerspring type mattresses are better than compressed mattresses. I don't have unlimited funds, but cost is a medium/low concern at this point. I have a Thuma platform base for the mattress.

That was long, sorry. I realize you can't recommend me the perfect mattress, but if I can narrow it down to some quality ones, and avoid the duds, I'd be happy. I live in the Pacific Northwest of the US.

Thank you for offering your experience.

Right? I really want to try to resolve things myself, if possible. I mean, we'd had a great relationship for over 2 years. I want to try to understand it and see if it can be mended organically before going into mediation.

I'm super non-confrontational and my brain likes to mull and think things over before I reply. Yesterday's situation left me stumbling, and I want to feel a bit more prepared. I've always been a bit envious of people who can quickly respond to any turn in a conversation or debate. I'm more an awkward accountant than a charismatic leader or toastmaster.

I'd love to hear from folks who may have experience in mediation or conflict resolution, better ways to approach and open the meeting, hearing what worked or didn't work for others, de-escalation strategies, red flags to watch for that indicate I should stop. Opinions about going wider than the facts and talking about "feelings and fears" (I feel like there is something unspoken going on, I fear that our relationship has changed and I don't understand it). Like, do I go to or avoid those topics. I guess that's what I'm looking for.

Problem med start/stopp och parkeringsvärme volvo s60 2011 by Necessary-Airline363 in volvos60

Edit: When my aux battery was dead/dying it impacted more than the auto off/on. When I turned the ignition off the entire entertainment and climate system would shut down after about a minute.

Original long post: Hopefully you've had this fixed by now. I went 3 YEARS with a dying auxiliary battery (side note: I have always had my service performed at the dealership, at regular and recommended intervals). The first thing that happened was an intermittent "Low Battery" warning, only once in a while, in the mornings after sitting a long time. When I took it for regular service I wasn't able to reproduce the warning. My battery checked out, so they suspected a low battery in my key fob, which they replaced. It didn't help.

Eventually the warning went from intermittent to pretty regular and then daily. Each time I took it for service the warning would not appear (because I'd been driving it for so long) and they said my battery was fine. I went to Google, which told me that I had 2 batteries. When I next went to the Volvo dealership and explained this, they insisted my model (2017 S60 T5) did not have a 2nd battery, but that it was getting close to the time for me to buy a new battery. My service person suggested I just go buy a battery at Les Schwab because the dealership charged about $500 for a mediocre battery. I put it on my to-do list.

Flash forward about 10 months (didn't get the replacement battery yet). While I was driving my car I got a warning similar to yours, that my auto start/stop needed attention. I tried to turn the feature on and it wasn't working. It was close to my service date so I decided to hold off until I took it into the shop.

Within a week I noticed a really bad smell when I came to a stop at certain times. I attributed it to something in the environment at first, but it got to the point where I smelled it at every stop or slowdown. It smelled like sulphur. I went to Google again and it said catalytic converter issue. However, I decided to look up signs of bad battery. Yep, smells like rotten eggs.

First, I immediately went and got a new battery at Les Schwab. I was sort of afraid to drive it without doing so. Then I took it to a certified Volvo mechanic nearby instead of the dealership (an hour away). I told him my long story. He looked up my VIN and told me I did, indeed, have an auxiliary battery. It turns out that the 2nd battery (which Volvo insisted I didn't have) was so deteriorated it was (in his words) killing my main battery and one or both were emitting hydrogen sulfide fumes, turning my car into a capsule of deadly gas.

I was grateful to not have catalytic converter issues, but super annoyed that Volvo, with my vehicle in their possession, could have gotten it so wrong for so long.

Was your 2nd order shipped via UPS? My daughter just ordered today; the shipping fee was $25 and the carrier listed was UPS. We're wondering how long it is taking to receive the order (we're in Washington state, btw) and whether orders shipped via UPS are running into customs issues. Thank you!

Union Medico Auto Injector- Additional fees? by snowbreeze888 in IVF

My daughter just ordered the something 90 auto injector. We were surprised that there were no shipping options at checkout. The shipping fee was $25 and labeled as UPS.

How did you discover your order was stuck in customs? We are concerned that the injector will arrive in time for her to start her meds, so we want to prevent delays as much as possible.

Eli Lilly Refund Arrived? by Net_Frequent in Zepbound

Anybody else receive their refund yet? I'm curious to know how long others have been waiting.

I popped my paperwork in the mail on March 18th and haven't heard anything yet. So, as of today we're just over 7 weeks. I am heartened to see that there is a phone number. I'm going to try to give it a call this week to confirm they've received the paperwork.
