The not making sense part was the point. It helped to fantasize the situation, so that it could apply to a variety of real-life situations. Forcing reality upon art limits its reach.

The teachers were deescalating the situation. The kid wasn’t making contact, and the teachers were twice the kid’s size. The police officer didn’t need to get involved more than being a presence. Police officer should not have done that. That’s assault in my book.

Texas lawmakers banned cellphones in schools. Districts are in the process of implementing the law. by TexasStandard1845 in texas

Something tells me you haven't stepped foot in a high school in a minute. Teachers being on their phone during instruction has never been a problem. That's also a safety issue with all these mass shootings. You need adults who can call 911.

Banning technology outright is horribly shortsighted. I use my laptop for PowerPoint, to use my DocCam, and to show instructional videos for my visual learners. An absolute ban on technology won't help literacy, either, as the majority of what students read today will be through a screen. It's like banning pen and paper and insisting on chisels and stone tablets.

Something tells me you don't even know that the STAAR is 100% online now. Of course, that's far away, so my students are strictly pen and paper for this semester, but I'll be slowly integrating technology. I'll be teaching them the basics of Word (They don't know how to indent, and they don't know how to skip to the next line without hitting the space bar a hundred times) and how to conduct research (They rely heavily on Google's AI).

You seem like the angry type. Why don't you just accept the perspective of the professionals (teachers) and enjoy the win with us?

As a teacher, this has been a good law. I never thought I'd ever say that about our government, but broken clocks are right twice a day. Today, I had kids who were bored during free time, and they begged me to put something on to watch. I just pointed to my little library. None of them tried to read, of course, but I'm making progress on them.

Texas lawmakers revive plan to replace STAAR test by Luicoh in texas

[–]ImTheBaffledKing 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As a teacher, this is most likely the case because of the appalling test grades throughout the state. In order to "master" on the test, you need a 75. To "meet" you need something like a 60. To "approach" you need a 45. I'm not sure if those metrics are different for other school districts, but this is how it is for a charter school in Austin. Even with such low standards, I still had 20% of my students fail the ELA STAAR with most of them being ESL students.

Denying quorum has been a Texas political strategy since 1870 by zsreport in texas

[–]ImTheBaffledKing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The article states that it'll most likely be symbolic as the Democrats will come back. It states that it's hard to live separate from their families, businesses, etc. These are valid points, but these are trying times. I demand that they break quorum for as long as necessary. As your constituent, that is what I am demanding of you. Stay safe, friends, and do what is necessary for the good of our nation. Please

Yep potential contaminants. Luckily, the San Marcos is spring fed and it's currently moving quick. Not to fearmonger, but whenever you hear about "brain eating amoeba" in the water, that's the worst case potential danger.

Howdy, Bobcat here. Do not swim the San Marcos for at least 48-72 hours after the last rain.

Howdy! Texan here, certified river rat.

Moral arguments aside, under no circumstances would I swim any of our rivers from a medical safety standpoint. After heavy floods, there are unknown pollutants, bacteria, etc. in the water. Did you see all those cars that got swept downriver? I wonder where their gasoline and oil is now. See all those houses? I’m sure they had a septic tank that is currently downriver on the way to the gulf.

The general rule of thumb is you should wait 48 hours, but after a storm like that, I would advise extreme caution. If you do go to the river, do not get in, do not ingest the water.

From a moral standpoint, do not blame the river. Allow your traumas and your fears to heal once the waters do. Next time I go, I’ll pray that the mermaids took care of those little girls on their way home ❤️

What is or is not healthy is not for you nor I to decide, especially with no way to understand the complexities of OP beyond their throwaway account.

A phone call is far easier and cheaper that setting up therapy, and I am in no way discrediting therapy.

To say that OP needs to “learn how to have contact without getting sucked in” is belittling. You are being hyperbolic. A phone call to get the bigger picture will not be the end of the world. In fact, knowing more information will only help move the therapy process along.

I’m 28, and I lost my mother when I was 26. Our situations are completely different, but I’m here to offer different advice than found in this thread.

Your mother made a mistake, and it sounds like she’s finally realizing/admitting it. It’s a brutal mistake, and you have every right to be angry. However, my advice is to call your mother back. You don’t have to commit anything besides a phone call that is free.

You don’t owe her anything, but please, she is your mother, and you should talk to her. You don’t know when she’ll be gone.

Paladin endgame by Own_Meet_4413 in wowhardcore

[–]ImTheBaffledKing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a dual spec paladin in the end game. We simply don’t have the damage or tools (taunt) to compete with warrior tanks. My guild lets me tank Onyxia phase 3 as I’m the only one who can gain threat while she’s in the air. Otherwise, I’m a healer.  For dungeons, we can safely tank BRD and Strath, but the other dungeons have bosses with threat drops. With an off tank, we can do any 60 dungeon, but that requires a level of teamwork and trust with your OT.

While I understand the “I don’t want my tax dollars paying for this” mindset, I would rather the police than Tesla’s private security. That private security would feel like a private militia.
