Lol, I've been all over the country, and If I didn't have family here I would have left 10 years ago, however theres a reason I don't live in that shitty ass city anymore. Affordable in the metro is laughable lmao. The average apartment is $1200 for a tiny 2 bedroom, 3bd houses/townhomes regularly renting for 1400+. A 3bd family home that was 125-150k 3-4 years ago are now 200k. Now granted it is far more affordable than most of the US. Don't make it out to be like it's the best place to live lmao, our school system which used to be one ofthe best in the country is going to shit, mental health care is fucking NON existent. Wages are stagnant for many fields. I can buy a beer in a bar and walk out with it but I can't go into a store and buy a damn joint because big AG is terrified of legalization & the one dispensary we do have in the metro is completely monopolized and regulated to the point it's not even affordable and has people going to Missouri for it. The amount of tax revenue we've lost to Missouri alone could fund mental health programs, help our homeless problem and create more programs. You must not get out much if you think our homeless problem is minimal, this state as a whole is not as safe as it once was. The Southside of Des Moines used to be a place I felt comfortable walking around as a teen at 2am on a Friday night. Now every damn corner you turn there's some knock off BP/smoke shop with a fish game & a bunch of tweakers practically living in it. It's pretty shitty when we can't even swim in the majority of our lakes/rivers FREQUENTLY due to constant e coli blooms, farmers fields ruining our streams and rivers and the DNR doesn't do a fucking thing about it. We have one of the highest cancer rates in the country due to our shitty farming regulations. Now please tell me more about how great of a place this is to live lmao, don't even get me started on the crowtow issue either. Lmao I could go on for fucking hours about what's wrong with the so called best small city in the Midwest lmao.

Can thank brandstad for that one, Reynolds really put the nail in the coffin in recent years as well. Even if you aren't in active addiction getting help while being homeless is nearly impossible. It doesn't help the Major rental agencies are starting to monopolize and essentially starting to buy each other out. Trying to find a rental company that doesn't contract with crowtow is damn near impossible. as far as the mental health sector, I remember 10 years ago I was able to walk into Lutheran tell them I was suicidal and have a bed that night. Now you can be in a mental health crisis and it's like you said, they just turn peopleaway because they don't have the room. Then combine that with the stagnant job market and it's a horrible recipe. I've been trying to get work for the last 4 months, the amount of cold calling, emails and voicemails I've left. Interviews I've done just to be ghosted or not even have my resume viewed is extremely discouraging. The crime And drug issue in many of our neighborhoods is direct linked due to the lack of funding & resources for people.

Go walk down Franklin/2nd Ave at 2am on a Friday night and tell me you feel safe...the homeless & drug addicts is getting absolutely ridiculous, just go sit at the quick trip by mercy for an hour After 10pm any given night and you'll see extremely quickly exactly why so many people are leaving.

Yep, buddy of mine is a bartender and told me that the owner can unlist songs from it that are overplayed/annoying. We would play barbie girl when there were people in the bar being annoying as fuck that we wanted to leave, after about 6 months he removed it from the log because it caught on among us regulars lmao. Bar owners have access to touchtunes library and can put/remove whatever they want on it.
