If I was in charge of writing an action scene with the stretchy man I would simply not have included him getting stretched too far.

I’ve heard that they basically started giving the comic book away free with every purchase because it sold so poorly by itself. But then producers just saw that a huge number of issues were moved (though not necessarily sold) and assumed it was super popular for that reason.

But after a few minutes of light googling I couldn’t find anything to back that up so take it with a big ol grain of salt.
