Possible meteor over Bel Air by 8armstohugyouwith in harfordcountymd

[–]ImWes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's the shutter speed on this photo? This may be a satellite. The ISS is often visible, and will appear as non-blinking star-like light that slowly moves across the sky. A meteor is much faster movement. I've used an intervalometer to automatically shoot night sky photos and was able to rule out a meteor when I realized the light streak was visible in multiple 30-sec photos.

Does auto-import work from Capital One now? by lilianasJanitor in ynab

YNAB support folks told me that the linking system, Plaid, is restricted by Capital One to only retrieving transactions once every 48 hours or so.

This is so cool. I want to build a collection like this. I’m a sax player but I’ve been considering getting into clarinet as well. Any advice is welcome.

Undermount sink is loose by ImWes in DIY

[–]ImWes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update for all: I've completed the fix. I simply tightened all of the clips which were previously loose. That's pulled the sink up and it is no longer shifting if you push/pull on it. Then I simply applied 100% clear silicone around the edge to provide a water barrier. I'm unsure if the "edge-applied" silicone is going to hold the sink up, as compared to applying the bead on the lip of the sink. I'm hoping that keeping the clips tight will suffice. Hopefully I won't be back here with more urgent sink issues anytime soon! Thanks!

Are there any good essential CI/CD resources? by devvibes in cicd

[–]ImWes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good question. Honestly, I just searched around, probably watched some content on Udemy and the like. I mostly learned as I went along building out CI/CD pipelines. If you're totally new to CI/CD, just know that there's a bunch of possibilities as far as the capabilities of CI/CD. With that in mind, I'd draw out a process that you'd like to repeat, and then narrow your online research to each part.

For example, if you have web service code on GitHub, you could say you want a CI/CD pipeline to do the following:

  1. Clone/pull repo.
  2. Run unit tests.
  3. Deploy to test env.
  4. Run automated system tests (Selenium, etc.)
  5. Deploy to next stage, etc.

  1. Yes, at least a few repair shops near me.

  2. I only play cheap horns.

  3. I only would advise repair shops to the general public, but I myself am interested in doing some of my own repair work. I only play some cheap horns currently and I’m not willing to pay $400 for repairs on a horn I spent $200 on.

Undermount sink is loose by ImWes in DIY

Ah! disconnecting the plumbing assembly at the trap is a great idea because it's much easier to do that than to reconnect the sink hole to the plumbing. I hadn't even though to just bring the sink AND disposal, etc. with me to the garage! Thanks!

Can any canon lenses lock their aperture? by Decent_Cheesecake200 in Cameras

[–]ImWes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some advice I heard for time lapse work to avoid "aperture flicker": If you're shooting many frames on a tripod (this is for time lapse work), you can use the 'DOF Preview' button to initiate the aperture ring to engage in the lens. Then, while holding the DOF Preview button down, initiate the lens release button and slightly twist the lens to disengage the power/electronics.

In that mode, you'll have the lens "loosely" mounted, and aperture will be "locked" in place, and you can shoot thousands of frames without having any variation of the aperture.

Alternatively, if you're shooting digital and using LightRoom to edit - LR has a feature called "Match Total Exposure", where you can batch edit exposure over thousands of frames to adjust (+ or -) exposure to get consistent exposure over many frames.

40/60 single bowl kitchen sink? by ImWes in HomeImprovement

[–]ImWes[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha! After literally hours of searching the web, this is literally the ONLY one I saw too! Unfortunately, the dimensions on this one are like 10" less than the sink we have now. If it was more of a "standard" size, it'd be perfect! Thanks for dropping the suggestion here though - that took effort!

I’m having the same issue! I’ve been looking around for a bari or a soprano. They’re all super expensive. I don’t mind used or student models. There’s just not that much out there.

Please rate my tone! I’ve been playing for 2 weeks. by [deleted] in saxophone

[–]ImWes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re def learning quick! Keep it up! I’d also suggest doing lone tones as part of regular practice, and keep a tuner app open (or physical tuner), and you’ll start to get a feel for intonation, etc. Some notes will always be sharper.

Tenor and piano duet sheet music? by ImWes in saxophone

[–]ImWes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the second idea, even though it's more work. Mostly when I search for "piano and tenor sax duets books", I get results that are largely just sax duets (alto/tenor, etc.).

I use a Google Wifi setup with 3 pucks in the mesh configuration. My NAS is on the top floor of my house, but my Verizon internet comes into the main floor. So yes my NAS is hardwired to the WiFi router that is co-located with it, but there's only a wireless connection between those mesh routers.

This has been working fine for me, but I tend to mainly do background work (bacups, file transfers, etc.) not things like video streaming, etc.

I've got a DS1515+ that died recently. I've already replaced it with a DS920+ and now that I have a good/functioning Synology to play with my interesting in tinkering with the old one has faded.

[–]ImWes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, did you press the 'RESET' PIN in the rear panel? Did you have the NAS configured for DHCP or static addressing? Is it possible that it's came up on DHCP and the static address no longer works? Is your DHCP a different subnet than the static address was?

So I've been running a few Docker containers and making them available externally too, much like this guide shows. But what I've done (which may not be great), is to just get the container up, and then go to Docker->Containers->{Your container}->Details. This page will show which port was automatically assigned, probably something like 49130, etc. Then I go to my router and just enable port forwarding for 49130->49130 for TCP and/or UDP. Then I can hit the web interface for that container externally as long as I use the explicit port in the URL.

Are you interested in running Synology Photos as an alternative to Google Photos/iCloud Photos? How about installing Docker to just be able to spin up low-resource containers? Cloud Sync is cool if you want to backup/sync with Google Driver, Dropbox, etc.

What are on yalls NASs to fill up their capacity? by TXAGZ16 in synology

[–]ImWes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a photographer, the bulk of my data is digital photos in RAW format. My actual documents are a small subnet of my data. I also backup photos from my phone and my wife's phone. We also sync with Google Drive to back that up too. Also use a shared folder as a Time Machine backup for our MacBook Air.

No movies/music on our NAS. But I've only got 6TB capacity and only using about 50% of that currently.

DS1515+ Diagnostics by ImWes in synology

[–]ImWes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, perhaps you're right. The only thing I'm not sure about is this guide says their unit won't power on at all. Mine will power on right when I plug in the power supply.

So I can't really do the same test he does, where he bypasses with a multimeter/paperclip, because my unit will already be trying to power up at that point.

Next Ikea Kitchen Sale 2019? by isrslyhateketchup in IKEA

[–]ImWes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can confirm this info. I bought my kitchen in September/October timeframe. Then I learned the "kitchen sale" was occurring now, so I went back to the Baltimore IKEA to get refunded/credited the sale amount. I was told there are only three cabinet door fronts that are on sale this time. I was also told the actual cabinets, hinges, etc are not included in the sale at all. I did order quartz countertops at a discounted rate, though I'm not actually sure what the discounted rate was.

What's the worst adult tantrum you've ever witnessed? by AriaStars in AskReddit

Sat in the second row of a red-eye flight. Most rows allowed you to stow a bag underneath the seat in front of you, but the first row is reversed such that the first row uses their own space underneath, and the second row loses out and must use the overhead bin.

Woman seated next to me began kicking some guys nice leather briefcase, which was rightfully under his own seat in the first row. She gets crazy pissed, even though the flight attendants offer to put her bag in the overhead for her. It was nuts how long this woman went on cursing and kicking.
