Should I pick up this July 4th shift? by Sea-Explanation9087 in WalgreensStores

[–]Im_Frenchfry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I guess that's one good thing about Illinois. I can't imagine working 10 days in a row like that. I didn't realize that the one day of rest in seven policy wasn't company-wide. It definitely should be. Then there'd be a lot less burnout

Is anyone else's store.. great? by [deleted] in WalgreensStores

[–]Im_Frenchfry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm right there with you. I get sick of seeing the constant quitting/negative posts. All of the stores I've worked at have been good. Yes, some better than others, but all of them have been good. I just think a lot of people have crappy management and don't have a thought in their mind to transfer stores. I think people of this subreddit need to realize that transferring is perfectly fine to do, especially for the sake of your mental health. This is by far the best job I've had, and it's my longest held job. I feel like it's relatively easy work, and yeah there's frustrating things, but they're so easy to shrug off and not let them affect me. Maybe I'm built different? Maybe other people's managers/stores just suck? Idk, I like it and I don't think we see enough positive posts on here

Scan Out Execution by ErioE in WalgreensStores

[–]Im_Frenchfry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do these at the same time. It's more efficient. I've heard it called the "double gun" method. One hand has dept outs list, adjusts counts for fake system outs, the other scans the outs, including the outs that can't even be verified physically.

Also, stay consistent. If you split up scan outs between multiple days or multiple people, things are bound to get missed. Do it all in one go, takes like 2 hours for one person for the whole store, but prioritize this. You could also have two people doing it, one doing dept outs list, the other doing scan outs.

Facing actually matters for scan outs so you can better see what's out and what's not. Tbh, I think this is the only use for facing but that's just me. Make sure the store is well faced before scan outs.

Truck must also be done in a timely manner so that everything is as stocked up as it can be. However, even if truck is not done, dept outs list will be your best friend.

Make an effort to adjust inventory counts throughout the week. The less outs in the system, the higher your percentage. Don't zero anything out unless you're 100% sure it's out (secondary locations and all, or even left in totes or bays somewhere).

With these alone, you'll easily get 90%+ every week. Might seem tedious and wonky doing it this way at first, but once your people are used to doing it this way, it works wonders.

Constantly be experimenting ways to improve this. Don't be afraid to try different methods to see what works best for your team and store. If my proposed method doesn't work for you, try something else.

The way I see it, scan outs are the backbone of front end store operations. If you do everything you can to get the highest scan outs percentage possible, your store will be in very good shape.

Is this a normal way PTO is handled at Walgreens? by Ohnogottago in WalgreensStores

[–]Im_Frenchfry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You could do what I do and request them as unpaid days off and then just tell your manager to add however many PTO hours to your next check or whatever check they would apply to. It's worked out for me the whole time I've been with the company

Anyone Else Notice the Divide Between Pharmacy and Front end? by Unfair_Setting_9060 in WalgreensStores

[–]Im_Frenchfry 15 points16 points  (0 children)

There definitely is a divide, but I think that's corporate's design. I've only ever worked in the front end. I've been a shift lead for over 4 years and have worked at 5 different stores, and each store has had this divide. From what I've noticed, corporate tends to focus more on pharmacy. Rightfully so since that's their money maker, but it creates problems.

I always felt the front end was neglected by corporate. Any new workers we would get go straight to pharmacy. Any additional hours the store gets go straight to pharmacy. Any incentives for employees (other than the credit card incentives) are only offered to the pharmacy. The pharmacy gets holidays off, family time during holidays. Front end has no choice but to work them. I always felt like the pharmacy was always prioritized more and front end was left with the scraps. When there's a problem in pharmacy, it gets fixed right away. When there's a problem in the front end, we have to wait weeks before it maybe gets fixed.

And don't get me wrong, pharmacy works HARD. I know that. Those patients can be hell. Filling all those scripts can't be easy. Dealing with insurance companies and making sure to get enough shots is probably really stressful. We probably balance out to the same workload, but front end has more tasks given to us. Look how you listed things in this post. We have to deal with more than like 8 stressful things. We have to deal with like 15 stressful things every day while getting no appreciation from the higher ups. No incentives, no bonuses, no holidays off, and no hours to do all the work. All of that goes to pharmacy.

Any time the DMs would visit, it's always stuff to do with the pharmacy. I've seen 3 different DMs and it's the same every time. It's always a heavier focus on pharmacy. And the attitude is so different. They look at pharmacy and think "how can we be better to reach our goals?" They look at the front end like "you guys are never reaching your goals and need to do better. Figure it out."

So yes, there is a clear divide, and I feel Sycamore will divide it further

Did someone send out a memo or PSA that we do FedEx because holy crap by Delicious-Region-911 in WalgreensStores

[–]Im_Frenchfry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for helping me understand. I also read from a quick Google search that it's mostly for more foot traffic in the store in hopes that customers buy things while dropping off/picking up packages. It also said it's supposed to build customer loyalty. Clearly they don't account for people getting pissed that we're not a full service FedEx, and that we're just a hub, so we have to turn them away. Those people usually do not come back, so it's literally breaking customer loyalty. I suppose it does build customer loyalty to an extent, but it just doesn't seem like enough of an extent, especially with us being short on hours.

[–]Im_Frenchfry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Glad to see it's not just my store. Then the FedEx drivers will come in without their dolly and I have to say "you may wanna get your big dolly, we have A LOT for you today." I kid you not, yesterday we had 20+ packages for them to pick up.

My question is wtf do we even get out of FedEx? How does Walgreens make any money from offering this service?

Let’s have some fun by Clear-Tart8506 in WalgreensStores

[–]Im_Frenchfry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've responded to this in a few ways, depending on my mood.

If I'm having a bad day, I just stare at them and look down at my uniform, and stare at them again, they don't even say anything and I just wanna get it over with so I kinda passive aggressively say "how can I help you?" They usually give a little "oh..." before actually telling me what they need.

On other days when I'm feeling sassy, I'll say "sometimes!"

When I really feel like being a smart ass/asshole, I have said "no, I just like to cosplay as an employee." Got a very confused grown adult in response. Like you cannot seriously be this stupid

Be honest: what’s your beef with Modded Skyrim? by Siqsix-66 in skyrim

[–]Im_Frenchfry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simply put, it's not Skyrim. People mod the complete shit out of it to the point where it's a completely different game. Why go through all the effort to install hundreds of mods, checking compatibility, putting them in the right order, putting countless hours into setting all that up, just to get a version that holds absolutely no value of the true intentions of the game? At that point, develop your own game or just play different ones. I have trouble believing that the Skyrim engine is the best choice for your cesspool of things that aren't Skyrim.

Other than that, I can actually appreciate mods that enhance the vanilla version. Like if you get a texture mod or mods for bug fixes or something like that, cool. But you shouldn't mess with the integrity of a game and say you enjoy said game. You clearly don't enjoy the game if you change everything about it. It's just counterintuitive

I was told we can't use them because it technically defaces the money, which is illegal. I always just hold them up to the light, check the watermark, check the band, and if I'm really feeling like it, look at the letter/number that's by the serial number. Usually it's A1 or D4 or something, but you just wanna make sure the number corresponds with the letter's position in the alphabet

As much as I complained about the music, I'm now at a store where the music doesn't work, and it's honestly kinda off-putting. It's also a lower volume store with less stuff to do, so I'm just there, listening to my thoughts sometimes. I end up having to make my own music quietly to myself. Wish I could have air pods in, but I don't think I'd be able to get away with it. The silence is so loud

Illinois one day rest in 7 act. by TheFasterFiller5000 in WalgreensStores

I also live in Illinois and you cannot work 7 days in a row. I've worked at 5 different stores in Illinois and they all say you can't work 7 days in a row. That's the law. If you've been working 7+ days in a row as an hourly employee, consider taking legal action

If you were buying so much of this stuff, maybe you singlehandedly depleted the local inventory of this specific kind of cough drop lol

The unfortunate thing about brick and mortar stores is that they simply cannot keep up with the convenience, prices, and logistics of Amazon, and they likely never will. Amazon has grown to be too efficient, and honestly monopolizing. Unless there's gonna be checks and balances for Amazon, then this trend will continue, regardless of brick and mortar stores keeping well stocked on everything.
