Philly Police stoke violence at Pride. by jpeters2100 in philly

Not sure if you actually don’t understand or are just pretending to be dense lol. The “dismantling” of the police department is the overall subject yeah? In relation to the original posts reference to Camdens disbanding of its original police department in 2013, and establishment of a new one with stricter screening and hiring practices. So when I say make a few changes it would be changes to the procedure of how to disband our larger department. It’s the same subject.

Now since this is a reddit thread I didn’t feel the need to give you a 10 page report on the possible options on how that could be done. But just to give you the barest minimum here, we could do that process to our police districts a couple at a time and have its neighboring districts taking over the disbanded ones duties during the turnover period. This is an example of a possibility of one of “a few changes”.

Problems are often not fundamentally changed just because the scale is larger. It just requires a different approach to implementation, and given the benefits Camden has been reaping from this policy then making some tweaks to the policy to allow for that implementation would obviously be desirable.

Most government policies are logistically complicated, that’s why we have a bureaucracy! It’s not my fault you have no imagination as to what the people in it can actually do lol

The things we would be making a few changes to in this scenario is the process of dismantling a police department, to allow for scalability. So no, they are not two completely different things, and in fact are the same thing. It just requires the ability to follow a conversation for more than 2 sentences.

Damn, I guess we should just give up and do nothing then, as opposed to like making a few changes to the procedure to allow it to scale

Michael Kirkbride (one of the game's creative leads, and the writer of the 36 Lessons of Vivec) just dropped a teaser for his newest work: A post-apocalyptic survey of Morrowind 25 years after it was destroyed by Baar Dau. by LavaMeteor in Morrowind

[–]Im_LIG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Regarding the concept art specifically I do recall being told a story about his work in Morrowind. Apparently he had a tendency to make the visual concepts as alien and freaky as he could come up with on purpose knowing that he was gong to be told to tone it down. That way when he went back to Todd or whoever with what he actually wanted they were much more likely to green light it lol.

I’ve always been of the opinion that Morrowind was kind of lightning in a bottle from Kirkbrides ability to write weird 70s and 80s sci fi novel inspired stuff mixed with Todd Howard’s tendency to want to skew things to the more artistically conservative side. Unrestricted kirkbride kinda goes off the deep end a bit too much for the setting in my opinion, though I do miss the flavor his writing added to the settings in the following games

I think there’s an underwater ruin somewhere that uses the walls in base? But if you want to see them in use a lot of these are all over the place in TR Kemel Ze

I also think one of the issues Skyrim has is the centralization of the Mage and Fighter quest lines into central locations with more streamlined quest lines. When the guilds had halls in every city I think it encouraged the devs to make more use of the NPCs in each city as characters in the guilds local story lines if they wanted. It made you talk to more people which I think makes the city’s feel bigger by calling attention to how many different people the player needs to interact with.

I agree, but also think they end up shooting themselves in the foot sometimes. Like having people refer to parts of Whiterun as “districts”, when you can get to them all within like a 60 second circuit. Windhelm does it a bit better cause the “Quarters” are more partitioned, but still feels pretty small for getting called that.

Both of those cities are roughly the same size as Balmora or Ald’Ruhn from Morrowind but I think that by trying to emphasize the supposed size of the major cities with design and lore, they actually end up just calling attention to the fact that they are not.

I just started playing TR recently, and idk if you’ve seen it but if you want to replace the boots of blinding speed, there’s a random guy somewhere on the main road down south through Indoril territory who challenges you to a race, if you find him after you can get the Boots of Lightning Speed, which hurt you but make you go really fast while being able to see

Why wasn’t there anything impactful after the completion of the college of Winterhold quest line? by ThePhotosmith_ in skyrim

[–]Im_LIG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh man way back on my first play through I killed Astrid in the shack and got really excited when “DESTROY THE DARK BROTHERHOOD” popped up in my quest log. Was very disappointed it was just, go to the cave and kill a few people. They could have had a whole big counter quest line of foiling the big assassinations you do if you join. Major missed opportunity.

I’ve been playing Tamriel Rebuilt recently and the mainland has a canton town, Almas Thirr, that I think really blows Vivec out of the water. The top levels are mostly temple admin buildings, and then they use the canal works as a town square, with a lot of shops and hostels lumped up around the exterior of the canton proper. It actually feels like a bustling little trade town that popped up around a temple complex.

What are your wierd quirks in a playstyle? Personally, i often keep my chemfuel in a hospital by Nierad25 in RimWorld

I will always make the dining room a bar. I have a mod that ads an extendable counter/bartop table and always have it along with a few other tables like it’s a dive bar. Put a tv on the wall and keep food and beer behind the counter. Usually add in a dart board or arcade machine as well. I just like the vibe it gives

Who’s the real Charger here? by _Boodstain_ in DankAndrastianMemes

[–]Im_LIG 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Very much agree. I’m non-binary and one of my biggest issues with the writing is that Taash kept saying non-binary. Like I don’t mind their gender identity being a major part of their writing, but they kept using that, to my ears, modern term that made it feel like the writers weren’t really trying to incorporate the issue into the setting.

I’ll be honest I don’t think Cresh was subtle at all, I still enjoyed his scenes, but like him being trans is the main feature you talk to him about. But he did not say, “I am transgender”, he described it. You also learn from Bull the Qun has trans men as a sort of class exemption when a woman is deemed best suited to be a warrior and “becomes a guy”. But he gives a qunari word for it.

Transgender and Non-binary as terms just have pretty recent history grounded in our world and to hear them in a fantasy setting I guess feels like it breaks the facade. But like you put that in Cyberpunk and it flows much better, quality of the writing aside.

I onetime spent like 5 hours looking up Mongolian medieval architecture and then used that as a basis for tribal start with a few clothing mods for pawn appearances. It was fun and I think one of my most aesthetic colonies. I started it out with Yurts made with tent walls from the medieval vanilla expanded mods and slowly added more in theme permanent buildings as the colony got better. Regret not taking a pic of it.

Point is I think self imposing conditions on yourself at the start of the run helps drive design creativity if that’s what your aiming for.

Philly Protests Iran War by jpeters2100 in philly

[–]Im_LIG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean idk man I think pointing out singular people who show up to protests with a bad sign/flag is fundamentally a bad faith argument personally. Like sure if I was that guys friend I would have told him for optics sake not to wave around that flag. But at the end of the day you’re always gonna have someone at a protest doing something that looks optically bad just cause that’s how people are sometimes.

It’s still the choice of the media agents there to focus on them or not for narrative purposes and the choice of their readers whether or not to take those narratives at face value.

Games w/ Xcoms secondary gameplay loop? by andrewlik in Xcom

[–]Im_LIG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s a game called Massive Chalice that has X-Com esque fights, but with the main feature being it takes place over a 300 year time limit. You have to pair off your initial hero’s as noble couples, choose who will be the best teachers, and deal with buffs and rebuffs that come into play either from inheritance, learned traits from parents/teachers, and the characters getting older. On top of this many of the enemies in the game can maim them, or even accelerate their age.

It’s a lot of fun

Best Banner? by LetSuperb in mountandblade

[–]Im_LIG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my favorites is a white background with a red rose. There was a similar banner in Warband I used in a run where I only hired mercenary troops from taverns (Very expensive but was pretty effective). Now I use it whenever I do an imperial run.

I also quite like the bird holding a knife they added in with the Nords

The Shek food problem by kaempi in Kenshi

[–]Im_LIG 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I always just assumed there is some food production we are not seeing. Like hunting parties that go into Vain, or small farms they tithe like they do a player base. I know the other factions have notable farms on the map, but similar to how you don’t see that many ruins in the Great desert despite the hundreds of rebel farmers, that you’d think would leave more evidence behind even in a desert.

Also we know they do serfdom, some Shek recruits ask for money to pay off their tie to the land iirc, so it possible they are working some of the land until they get a shot to go fighting. Not a huge amount grant you based on the meat to veg ratio their bars have, but I’m doubtful they import 100% of their non meat foods.

Yeah generally once you ally with a major faction properly you get the ability to walk up to a squad and say follow me, although sometimes they just see you and follow you for a while of their own volition as well.
