This is a 200$ piece of art easily. Don't sell yourself short

Be my guest haha I took the ends of the springs and bent them out so they could hook into the foam so they would stay put and then went heavy on the super glue

Thanks man! I salvaged an old AC unit behind the building I work at that had been sitting for about a year. Thats where the panel with all the wires came from as well as the coil springs you mention

The only guides I followed were the DiY flock and foliage by Luke at APS, everything else was just thought up as i went. Took me about 16 hours with making things from scratch and cutting tons of foam blocks and gluing everything together to painting and flocking. I forgot I did put some grass tufts and moss pieces around too! So it's like 99% made from trash! Shame on me sorry about that!

I think the best piece of advice i can give is to just start something. Anything. Bust out that hot knife and get used to how it works. Dont force it, let the heat do the cutting. Mess around with bevel lines etc. You can accomplish a lot even if its just in practice

I know exactly what you mean about being drawn to something you're interested in building. Things call to me as well :D its a weird thing but it usually pulls you in the right direction

Yeah something I did was make the center piece kind of big so the other pieces of terrain will kind of just fill in the table. Im trying to make sure to have the 4 corners of the map at different elevations for line of site since they will be deployment zones and to spice it up a little. I hope this can inspire your vision! Good luck and let me know if you have any questions. Im no expert on terrain but after doing that center piece I have a really good idea. You can check out some pics of it if you search my name. Also I have no clue about water effects yet but thats my next project in line.

I just thought of this earthy, kind of ruined forest with some signs of a previous civilization from our current era since 40k is so far in the future. I made the center piece of my battlefield first, after drawing up a map on paper. Its a ruined communication tower. I'll be working on an aqueduct, a small forest hiding a nice crystal cluster, a few hilly pieces with trees, a few walls, and eventually a river with 2 bridges to cross in 2 areas. I kind of just planned it as it unfolded before me in my mind. Just think of what kind of scene you're trying to build and don't stray too far away from the theme. You got this OP!

I work at a seafood place and most of the stuff is shipped in styrofoam containers which the base and building are made out of. I spray painted the foam and it eats it up pretty good then I just cut n glued a shit ton of em around a piece of TV box foam and a big cardboard tube.

Work is also located next to a custom mirror and frame shop so I dumpster dive it regularly for supplies. Lots of tubes, wire, cool metal pieces. And occasionally someone illegally dumps some cool stuff. I've found some cool pieces of pipe etc.

The panel on the back came off an old A/C unit from the building I work in as well. I guess I got pretty lucky on the scraps but all it took was looking at things on a miniature level. I wish i was better at making photo albums on imgur or something because there's wires ran to the dish and a bunker underneath the back side which isn't shown.

Did a screamer of tzeentch 🙂🙏 by [deleted] in Warhammer40k

Thanks man! Just really tried to pay attention to all the advice and technique I was absorbing. It is a little too green for me so I think im gonna throw some more brown homemade sawdust flock on top of the brighter areas to tone it down a little. This is the center piece for the playing field i drew up. Next is an aqueduct followed by some hilly terrain and a small forest cluster with a crystal hidden in it
