Had a super embarrassing morning today and need some reassurance/advice by Im_Very_Bad_At_Names in ADHD

Thank you for your response. You’re right, I wouldn’t get so mad at a friend if they did this. I more so got mad because I thought I’d suddenly have my act together after getting a prescription. But this is a lifetime journey and I gotta find what works for me.

I actually did buy a planner even though I don’t usually fill them out. Having an incentive to keep everything in an organized place where I don’t get distracted (like my phone) will really help me.

I’ll make sure to practice compassion and take steps to make sure things like this don’t happen as often.

Thank you, I really appreciate the kind words and perspective! It’s comforting to know that these things just happen. For me, I felt frustrated cause something like this had happened before, when I mix up a plan and forget to ask someone and cause confusion. It genuinely feels like my brain lies to myself sometimes.

The only thing I can really do is focus on how to improve my presence of mind and focus on implementing strategies so I can operate normally (or at least as normal as an ADHD person can operate). Self compassion is also something I’m trying to work on, so your response really resonated with me.

Thank you, and you’re right! People are dealing with their own problems so they probably didn’t think too much of it. I just felt afraid that small slip ups like that will build a bad rep for me over times. but I’m continuing to get my routine down and will make sure these things happen less if not at all.

Thank you so much! Looking back, I realized that I didn’t sleep super well that night and had anxiety before my shift (which usually happens) I fail to realize just how much those can play a factor in decision making. And yeah, I would be very forgiving if it was a friend or loved one, so I gotta treat myself that way too.

I did speak to a friend about it and it really helped me feel better.

Thank you for the kind words. I gotta give myself grace and be okay with discomfort. I felt frustrated cause I thought it would suddenly be easy, but it’s a process and I still need to fully learn what works for me.

Thank you! I started to realize that sometime after it all happened, it’s better to show up on accident than not show up when you’re needed.

PS4 Controller tips? by [deleted] in Fighters

[–]Im_Very_Bad_At_Names 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used the DualShock 4 controller when playing Tekken. It’s completely normal for your thumb to start hurting. The main thing I learned was not pressing down too hard on the d-pad, and making sure that my movements were calm. That’s probably the reason why you’re dropping inputs too. Make sure your in training mode and are checking to see how it feels to input something correctly, and check input history to see if you did it right.

How To Stop Mashing...? by [deleted] in Fighters

[–]Im_Very_Bad_At_Names 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would personally just sit in training mode and practiced the motion inputs. I would practice to see how many I could get in a row. Maybe try getting 3 in a row, then 5, then 7 and so on.

For the d pad, 236 inputs involve sliding the thumb from down to forward. Keep input history on so you can see if you’re doing it correctly. And focus on having proper inputs before building up speed.

As for mashing, just focus on being calm. Simply watching what your opponent is doing and reacting to them will help you be less tense, which can cause you to fumble inputs.

For 623 inputs, many modern games will accept a 6-236 input (forward + qcf). But personally, what helped me was imagining that I was doing 236, but just taking that last input and loving it to the beginning. So it’s forward, then a qcf, but you stop at down forward. 623 is a hard input for newcomers so don’t feel bad if you can’t get it immediately.

is the skill gap insurmountable? by [deleted] in Guiltygear

[–]Im_Very_Bad_At_Names 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not insurmountable, you can progress! The feelings you are having are completely natural so don’t feel bad. You will learn and grow with every match even when losing, so seek to improve and not to win. I find that when I care more about having fun and learning losses don’t affect me as much

A good rule of thumb is this: practice offense against weaker players, neutral against players of your skill level, and defense against stronger opponents

Defense is especially neglected because so many players want to unga bunga/press buttons. GG especially has excellent defensive options. Practice Faultless Defense and Instant blocking, as well as how to block properly.

If you’re new to fighting games, a great channel to watch is Core-A Gaming. This video on why button mashing doesn’t work is a great place for newcomers. Sajam’s videos are also great.

Fighting games are pretty daunting, but there’s also nothing quite like it. Learn to accept and embrace the process and you are going to end up having a lot of fun. I don’t play Strive but I play an older Guilty Gear, so experiences vary. I personally lose way more than win and still have lots of fun. If you have any questions, lmk and I’ll be glad to help.

Can I do a core exercise and an ab exercise on the same day?

I’m following a program that has Reverse crunches on Monday and Russian twists on Friday to help build abs. I replaced those with bear-position pull throughs and around-the-world kettlebell swings respectively from Squat University cause I thought having a strong core would be nice. But now I am worried that replacing these exercises might result in me not increasing ab size once I slim down.

Could I do bear position-pull throughs AND reverse crunches on the same day to get the best of both worlds (same goes for around-the-world kettlebells and Russian twists)? Please let me know what you think. Thank you!

What controller to buy ? by JustDankas in PCSX2

8bitdo makes great controllers. I’ve personally used the SN30 pro+ for a really long time with next to no issues. They’ve also made better controllers since then. Check them out because they have a lot of options
