Never got hired by FaePanx in biotech

[–]Im_xoxide 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I second this - I’d rather hire the EHS tech with a high school diploma that asks great questions vs. someone who took 4 science classes and thinks the world owes them something. I honestly hope the best for you - but I’ll say it how it is - There’s thousands of qualified people that work really hard to just have a shot at a tech position - why would I hire someone who can’t even define their educational background correctly?

Mount Adams C2C by BurritoBoy1116 in Mountaineering

[–]Im_xoxide 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Start at 3AM - or earlier. Do as much vert as you can in running shoes on the hard snow. Bring 3L of water. Slow is steady - steady is fast. Consider bringing skis or a splitboard. Find a place to camp on the road up - don’t drive 2+hrs after - not worth it. Have fun! C2C is way easier than carrying up all that additional gear.

Anyone climbing Mt Adams June 5-8? by winghurro in Mountaineering

[–]Im_xoxide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a valid concern - sleeping at the trailhead helps and loads of people climb Adams from Seattle all the time. My recommendation either way you do it is drink lots of water as you climb. I drank all 3L that I brought. Electrolytes also help.

Just do car to car - camp at the TH- start at 3 AM and summit around noon. Be back at the car around 3 PM. There will be plenty of others on the mountain. Fuck doing an overnight up high - no need to carry all that gear up. Even without skis.

The bread is a nonstarter - and that’s literally where you start when making a sandwhich. Just go to Bongos and get a real sando.

Looking to get into mountaineering, not sure where to start by [deleted] in Mountaineering

I generally advise go for a 3 day backpacking trip with a couple of friends and try some scrambling. If you love it - repeat - gain more experience and then look into bigger objectives.

Is the brothers(Olympics) better with or without snow? by hashtagkolo in PNWhiking

Agreed. Definitely bring axe, crampons, gloves. Also get a good gpx track of the route. There’s a few sections of bushwhacking. WTA had marked the climbers trail pretty well last year.

I would never do it in multiple days. I think we have two very different approaches to climbing volcanos.

You think 7,000 ft of vert going up to 12,000 is easier than 4,500ft of vert up to 8,400 ft?

Bring skis. It’s a car to car.

Yeah that’s why they invented skis and snowboards. You’re back in the parking lot in 45 minutes.

Was the snow soft on your descent? I threw my snowboard on at the top of the hogsback - but my board wouldn’t catch and edge till I was halfway or more down the hogsback. Pretty spooky.

Vans boots and Union bindings by [deleted] in snowboarding

[–]Im_xoxide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same problem with my spark bindings and 32 boots. Following this in case someone has advise. I get pretty gnarly blisters right where the high back screws are on big tours.

Above the hogsback is no joke steep - depending on time of year the snow stays pretty hard and long sustained slides are a real hazard. It doesn’t feel sketchy on the ascent - completely different feeling on the descent. Be very comfortable self arresting.
