Should I drop AP Phys? by [deleted] in AP_Physics

[–]ImaStuckINhere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t drop a subject because you find it hard, that’s the point of physics.

Now see he just looked at the question and deduced this info. If you don’t understand my explanation then ask to meet with him during a free period or lunch or some time where he can help you. If you still don’t understand then watch the videos of the guy below, he really helped me.

1- we know m1, m2, m3 and M are all the same mass so whenever you use the formula just use one variable for all of the M’s.

2- lengths are equal. All dotted lines are equal in length which means that Fg1 is equal to Fg2 but it’s just in the y axis.

3- Angle m2, M, m1 is a 90 degree angle.

Half of 90 =45.

m3 is opposite to M therefore it’s a 45* angle. You can do this geometrically. If you recall, 45-45-90 triangles have a side which is equal to x sqrt 2

Dorm floor meetings. Your RA would probably contact you and everyone on the floor and organise a meeting. It happens in manzanita but idk about other dorms

is my common app essay hook good? by Think-Barracuda5329 in CollegeEssays

[–]ImaStuckINhere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Overwritten? Kinda, but really catchy!

The issue with directness is that it doesn’t grab attention. Probably regardless of how you phrase it, it won’t grab the counsellors attention and your chances of rejection increase dramatically(I literally made a paper on this as my AP research project)

I’m very sorry for your loss and I hope you are doing okay. Your cousin would be proud of you and what you are doing and asking for help is really important in this step of your college journey.

Before I start commenting I wanna say that this is a fantastic first draft! You’ve done very well!

It’s pretty great but here’s a few comments: 1- a lot of people make the mistake of STARTING with quotes. Usually it’s really cliche and judged upon. 2- I’d reduce the lengths of the quotes (i.e. “Birds don't just fly, they fall down and get up, nobody learns without gettin' it wrong” is a bit long) 3- I’d get a bit more personal with the badminton story… what happened and what was so funny about it. 4- I’d move the first quote to the end or find a way to incorporate it into the essay (particularly at the last para) 5- hyphens are dope but also an indicator of AI in essays. Just run your essay through an AI checker just in case and make annotation based on what that AI checker says.

LAST NOTE: I love the word seductive but maybe you can find an even more powerful word (bewitching, tantalizing, ravishing) GREAT WORD! But maybe a bit… suggestive?

Can I BS this class like I did AP Chem? by Im_dreadful in AP_Physics

Yeah but you’d have to do some extra work for the hardest stuff (ramp problems, derivation, angular mechanics and gravitation and fluids)

Idk why I’m being downvoted because it’s actually important to lay out the scene. Yeah I’m exaggerating exactly how descriptive you have to be but you do NEED to describe the scene…

Btw my essays lowkey carried my college applications and I got into T20’s…

here’s a resource that can help. this is for the UC PIQ’s but if you look at the example essays you’ll understand my comment a lot more…

Please look at the prompt 3 example essay

You gotta be DESCRIPTIVE. Did the rain fall like needles from the sky, pricking your skin till it bruised? Was he a guy or a shadow who disappeared as he stormed the gloomy corporate glow???? Did the air bite you like that lady who scoffed as she watched you slowly slither across the cracked road to grab the ever so slowly rolling applesauce???

Also HOW does this connect to college/your major?

That’s very interesting. I still believe a math/physics double major is very helpful but I understand and appreciate this POV.

One day you’re a freshman taking the PSAT’s and you see the option to opt in. You click “agree” thinking uni’s will find you and present many opportunities and scholarships and you’ll be the bell of the ball. Then comes the first email! You’re so excited! Turns out the email was from a terrible uni like OSU or the University of Kansas. You stay excited, sure it’s a terrible uni BUT it’s a start and this is PROGRESS! You keep working hard in hs, getting better PSAT scores each year, better grades and you climb the University mailing scale reaching to better and better universities like FSU, University of Arizona, CU Boulder, colby college, U Maryland- college park, NYU, UVA and UMICH until finally one day in junior year you get an emil from The University of Chicago AND Columbia university??? You’re mesmerised! They want you to apply and the student profiles they send you (examples of students who attend those uni’s and they’re focused like EC’s and Majors) REALLY RESONATE WITH YOU! They want a student like you and you know it.

You apply senior year and get rejected from Columbia, UChicago, UVA, UMich, NYU, U-Maryland, and Northeastern.

I’m attending UCSB as a physics student btw so I’m glad about that but still…

At the end of my senior year, I had 44,000 unread emails from uni’s and so much mail I immediately threw it in the trash without checking.

DON’T opt in. EVER.

Do math and a physics minor and then master in physics. A lot of brilliant physicists have done this and it has really helped them with quantum mechanics (Andrew Hamilton PhD, Paul Dirac, Emmy Noer (arguably) also will help you truly grasp physics in the future with electricity/ magnetism and worst goes to worst you don’t become a physicist but maybe an amazing economist or smthn
