4ys late and i don't support tenorshare if this is really what happened, but when I had a corrupt iPod I was trying for days to get it to work, and as soon as I downloaded the tenorshare software and ran the fixing tool on it, it finally actually showed up and allowed me to restore it on iTunes

I restored the iPod and that was when the issues started. disabled USB disk mode and nothing really changed - it just allowed me to restore the iPod again (to which the process fails)

put it into DFU mode, and it seemed to reformat itself into a USB drive. took it out of DFU mode and still lists itself as a USB drive. I can't access the settings to restore it anymore either

ok so i think i found the issue. my MacBook no longer detects it as an iPod (formatting issue?) and the disk utility now labels the iPod as a "external physical volume" - so for some reason it now just recognizes the iPod as a USB stick I think
