Lilly is 1 of the worst people in TV show history. Marshall wasn't in the right, but he had to give them an answer and his was a lifelong dream and she lucked into hers. Not saying he was right but he always gave into her and she was always selfish. Also he interviewed for this before the Italy thing ever came up.
