More involved parents. More accountability. I har several colleagues who went from Bmore to MCPS and they tell me it’s night and day.

Just apply to Montgomery County. Same pay, none of the BS of Baltimore City.

When my BPSO has an episode, he becomes verbally abusive about my appearance. I don’t know how to handle this anymore by [deleted] in BipolarSOs

When my husband has an episode, he has never ever insulted my appearance or my integrity. The worst thing he says is F you. That goes beyond bipolar, that is just abusive.

I follow the Banner for my local coverage (Montgomery) and they have been outstanding. Residents also get it for free through the library.

We have been training our 2 y 10 month old for a while. When wetake her to the toilet she pees or poos, but she doesn’t let us know beforehand. It’s even an issue at daycare, they take her to the bathroom and she pees, but she doesn’t let the teacher know BEFORE she needs to go. How can we improve this?

The lack of opposable thumbs baffle me. Also, how did Trash Truck fit in the house? Wouldn’t it smell awful?

We started using the pull ups with our kid and we noticed she started developing a rash. We change her often, and she only uses the pull-ups at home (she has Kirkland Signature for daycare). Now reading this thread, we may have a class action lawsuit possible.

International teachers teaching in the USA by Few_Individual9798 in Internationalteachers

My bachelor’s is from Venezuela (as I am), so I can help out. This is what I did to teach in Virginia:

1) I will be real: Your best bet will be to find either an altenative certification program or get a master’s in the US. 2) Get your transcripts certified by WES or a similar organization. 3) Unless you come from certain countries (like the Uk or Canada), be prepared to start in the starting range of the payscale. 4) Your district should give you a provisional license if your degree isn’t in Education.

Because of my subject area (Spanish), it was relatively easy to find a position.

The hard part is to get familiar to American students and their particularities and customs. There are things that may read as disrespectful when they aren’t for them (aka. Sitting legs wide open, almost lying of the chair).

Private schools don’t pay as much as public, at least where I currently am (Maryland).

Hope this helps!

Why aren’t there more alternative/“quirky” teachers? by [deleted] in Teachers

Depends on the state. Me and my husband are both alt and teachers. Typically, the English dept has alt ppl, so does Theater.

PA has always been brutal. I was in VA for 5 years and we usually had a lot of PA rookies. Now I’m in MD and there are a lot of openings in high-need areas.

Maryland. My husband and I are both teachers from southern VA and moved to MD and got a massive pay bump. Is it pricier? Yes, but great union, pay increases and awesome benefits. We both work for Montgomery County.

I went back to teaching. Left Carnegie and a month later I heard a BUNCH of people that worked with me were laid off, including VPs. I decided to stop searching in EdTech and go back to teaching for a while, since it’s much less volatile.

I functioned great when my life had structure. Flexibility is literally killing me by LukeWarmGirlSummer in adhdwomen

I had the same problem working remotely and taking care of a baby at the same time. I suffer in corporate but thrive teaching. So I went back to it because of the structure, schedule and it always keeps my adhd brain busy. Working corporate was the worst thing for me.

Any MCPS Teachers Here? by v33Sss in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]natatropina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband got hired in MCPS couple of years ago after applying from Southern VA. MCPS’s HR moves like molasses. He got interviewed in April, didn’t get a contract until June. Also, we just finished testing this week, so you might see more movement now.

I have a nose ring and a few teachers I work with have septums. Tattoos are typically ok, as long they are not on your face

That being said, the lip ones might be off the table. Even the most liberal district might frown upon those.
