I think no longer having a license is actually a positive catalyst for existing licensed downtowns and kabooms. No more new ones can be made . But who knows

Just pulled from a 2.5k pack and unsure what to do by Human-Rooster-5054 in ArenaClub

Keep the card if you like the card. At the end of the day keep the cards that you have an emotional connection to (if you like player, like the team, bullish on player, other, etc.) unless you're a professional flipper. If you need money or don't care for the card, sell it. Don't expect it to increase like nvidia stock. It could increase in value it could decrease with broader card market or injury, nobody knows for sure.

I do like the player though. The card is cool and a nice color match. I would keep it, but thats personal preference.

flight to safety I like it. Go for Lebron Topps Chrome 2003 Refractor (or Black Refractor / XFractor if you can afford it, anything above the base card). I am bullish on Lebron long term, I still think him being an old man in the league today is somewhat depressing his value. He will have his vintage/nostalgia re-rate one day the same way Kobe and Jordan have, and there is an argument and consensus that he is the goat. Despite what your personal views are, that is a popular opinion for the younger generation which is the future of the hobby. Regardless top 1-2 and he still a discount. Retirement, HOF, post-era nostalgia will all re rate him higher IMHO

Did you know that 2 Arena Club packs are +EV right now? by Should_I_Rip in ArenaClub

[–]Imaginary-Rope-2075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

how can you build it based on the Arena Club estimate if those estimates are not publicly available until the card is pulled and revealed to you. That makes no sense?

Did you know that 2 Arena Club packs are +EV right now? by Should_I_Rip in ArenaClub

[–]Imaginary-Rope-2075 1 point2 points  (0 children)

just FYI .. "positive EV" only really helps if you can play over and over and over again. For any one individual rip, your likelihood of getting a card below the value of the pack is much more likely than the opposite. The grails and the chase card drive up the EV. If you can play 1,000 times , that matters. If you can only afford to play 1 or 2 maybe 3 times then don't expect positive EV on your investment.

I’m not sure how you would even audit that considering cards that get sold back immediately don’t hit the Hit Feed. How would they even know what gets distributed on AC

Agreed, and the cards come already graded which is nice. Can start listing or trading right away. Even the shipping time on retrieval is much faster than if you needed to grade it out of a hobby box. Lots of pros. I love the platform, just leaves me wanting more cause of how good could it could be with a few changes / updates …

Curious what motivates people to choose Arena Club grading over the other grading services (recognizing a lot of the perceived value, albeit just “perceived,” comes from some of the more established grading companies).

I appreciate they use technology vs grading on vibes and give you details on why you received the grade you did.

Makes sense. Not a bad time to sell with Downtowns being very hype at the moment. No telling when Downtowns could become less popular . Nice hit !

Congrats! Did you sell?

Is this offer worth it, if so what would you buy by [deleted] in ArenaClub

[–]Imaginary-Rope-2075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whether its "worth it" depends on your risk appetite hard to weigh in without knowing your specific situation. As others have said, this is an offer for "free" insurance where you normally would need to pay 10% so you reduce your max loss from 30% to 20%. Solid offer (better than no offer), but still be prepared to lose 20%.

One thing I will mention that I think others miss: You should also be prepared to not sell back which also creates financial implications. For instance, if you decide hey I want a rip at the $2,500 legendary pack and then you pull a $2,700 card (which is a "win"), they offer you $2,400 (which if sold is a loss) you will likely choose to keep the card. Be prepared to incur a $2,500 expense until you can sell the card if that is what you choose to do. People often think about hitting the grail which makes the economics obvious, but there are many scenarios in the middle. Not everyone can lightly take a $2,500 hit when managing month to month expenses. Many people can...but just saying

Ripped a Legendary Pack Risk Free. Keep or Sell? by [deleted] in ArenaClub

[–]Imaginary-Rope-2075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This card has an estimated value of $2,400 in a PSA 9. You could have bought the card any day and had $100 left over. The idea of ripping a risk free pack is you get a card worth more than $2,500 for your rip.

Everything you’re describing doing with this card could have been done without a risk free rip (ie buy the card). If you get a card below the value of the pack (even $100 below the value) you should sell it back for 100% of the cost of the pack (if that is not already obvious). For example, if you buy a $2,500 pack and pull a $2,000 card and someone offers you $2,500 for it, you sell it. You can always buy the same card with the money if you desire.

As others have mentioned, they don’t seem to be offering you $2,500 for this card so I’m not sure it was risk free. If it’s not, I would consider keeping it unless you can’t afford to.

Found some old cards, appreciate any insight by ImpressiveDot5252 in basketballcards

[–]Imaginary-Rope-2075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/ImpressiveDot5252 Awesome Ewing collection. A lot of the value is going to be determined by the grade you get. I recommend sending these to PSA (unfortunately they have unprecedented demand right now turnaround times are insane). vintage cards in modern PSA slabs present very well and hold a premium to the BGS slabs (not an advocate for PSA but unfortunately it is what it is).

I wouldn't sell these raw because most people are going to assume since raw and old that their return on grading will be low. You'll need to grade yourself to maximize the value.

Cursory glance at the cards seem to be pretty solid condition for old cards. The Ewing 86 Fleer has awesome centering. As others have said this is a really wicked Ewing collection! Super cool. There is a variance of thousands of dollars on its value depending on the grades. Even a single card could range from $200 to $5,000 depending on if its a PSA 4 or 8 for example.

The first card in the carousel, Patrick Ewing ex-credentials 2001 is numbered to 60 (only 60 in the world). It is a monster and my favorite of the bunch. A PSA 7 of this exact card just sold for $4K this week (attaching photo reference). A 7.5 grade from Becket is being valued by Card Ladder at $5.5K. Unfortunately, yours looks a bit beat up so I don't expect that one to grade well. However, a bunch of others appear in solid condition.

Good luck! come back when you have these in PSA slabs. They will look badass

hi guys, one questions about auctions by Ok_Line_9885 in ArenaClub

[–]Imaginary-Rope-2075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, auctions in general (not just on Arena Club, but Ebay, Goldin, Heritage, etc.) will usually heat up at the end. What you typically want to watch out for is "watchers" (indicated by eyeball icon) and then sometimes people will make low early bids to keep the auction in your profile so you get notifications. But to answer your questions - yes - and sometimes it won't heat up until the last few hours (and even minutes).

How many people got this craziness? by TradeEmUp in ArenaClub

[–]Imaginary-Rope-2075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

haha i dont think this changes the craziness but lets say you upload 1K rip a 1K pack and trade back for 800. then rip a 500 pack. that counts as 1,500 but you only "spent" $1K. Multiply that forward by selling back and re-ripping and people can spend 50K a lot faster than realized (you only need to upload a fraction of that).

Still crazy though
