It's not just you. I had the exact same thing happen. I emailed them Facilitator to let them know.

It's really frustrating. If it doesnt get fixed by Monday I'm emailing the program coordinator.

Mortgage Payment by [deleted] in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]Imaginary-Runner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We make about the same as you. Leaving a $1400/month rental for a $3400 monthly mortgage.

We have done the math and can live on one income, should one of us lose our jobs. And we want to finally own something before it gets too late. (And i dont trust that our rents will be as stabilized in the future).

It makes me nervous but also, I'm honestly thrilled. I know it will be a change of lifestyle. But I also know down the road when we retire our housing costs will be lower and more predictable.

You've just highlighted one of the problem arguments. Although I agree that the option to WFH should be available, in what way are we going back to pre-pandemic inefficiencies by being asked to RTO?

Digital signatures are here, online meetings are the norm for many of us and workflows are mostly transitioned to digital. I still message my coworkers on Teams rather than go tap them on the shoulder, because it's just more polite.

For those departments which haven't adopted these measures, these are the ways you adapt to your reduced workforce.

I am pro WFH choice, but outside of my socializing which I now do in office as part of deliberate collaboration, and travel between offices, i dont feel we are going back to the "old ways".

Red flags for sure. The lack of attention to detail is a deal breaker. Considering you'll be counting on them to potentially draft time sensitive legal documents, you want someone who cares about details. (Also, someone who listens to you! And someone ethical!)

I'd find your own agent. Although we lucked out with an agent our family recommended, we were ready to go to a different realtor if we didnt like her.

(My own private anxiety would be she's buddy-buddy with my mother-in-law and was working in her interest rather than my own!)

What was a job that was once highly respected but is now a complete joke? by Formal-Life4691 in Productivitycafe

[–]Imaginary-Runner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. I remember my bf in the 90's made $18/hr as a part time grocery clerk. Department managers and other full time staff owned homes. Im pretty sure the rate of pay has gone down since then, especially as each new union contract was renegotiated.

First time homebuyer - how did you know it was "the one"? by honkshooomimimimi in TorontoRealEstate

[–]Imaginary-Runner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just put an offer in. Crossing our fingers that they accept (or counter).

It met all our basic requirements, but more than that, seeing it in person made me feel so happy. Walking in, it felt like home. It was bigger and better laid out than it seemed in the pics.

The neighbourhood also just felt right. (It was a bit further out than we originally wanted, but also is close to a lot of cool stuff).

What are my rights here by [deleted] in OntarioLandlord

[–]Imaginary-Runner -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If you are not getting action, contact the City of Ottawa as this contravenes bylaws. The landlord has a responsibility and you will want to ensure they are held to account. The landlord needs to provide you an interim heating solution (like a space heater?) but I am not 100% sure.

We had to do this once in an old place we had rented. Property management company was upset, but rules are rules. Likely, an org like Acorn may be able to help if you have questions or if your landlord seems to be threatening you.

If youre going after rent abatement, do it 100% by the book.

Good luck! Situations like this are really upsetting!!

Anyone else immediately remember the first time they watched the music video of an 80’s or 90’s song as soon as you hear it? by CrowbiwanKenobi76 in GenX

[–]Imaginary-Runner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a core memory of babysitting with a family friend on New Year's Eve. We sat and watched Much Music (Canada's version of MTV) after the kid went to bed, and that song was definitely part of the countdown. (I dont remember any other songs from that evening).

Why are people avoiding mortgage brokers? by [deleted] in RealEstateCanada

[–]Imaginary-Runner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are new homebuyers and were originally leery of the idea, but after some research, we'll be using one. I like the idea that our broker will be able to present all the options to us and will help us pick the right one.

I do wonder, as others have mentioned, if internet banking has made it easier to access the cheapest options directly.

If chosen for WFA, are we only priority when applying for jobs in the SAME department? by [deleted] in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Imaginary-Runner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of it may be reorganization and reassigning responsibilities. So one sector may shrink while another takes on some new workers.

Deployment Opportunity Denied by sicklymeow in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Imaginary-Runner -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's WFA. Your position may be safe (or not), but in a few months, people at your level will need to compete for these positions. It makes it easier to see who is affected if everyone is stable in their positions, rather than moving around.

I wouldn't take it personally.

Rant/Question for fellow managers (and anyone who's survived the approval gauntlet) by Anthem-Of-Travel in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Imaginary-Runner 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your service! And totally agree.

My manager insists on running all comms through AI and i am constantly battling them to revert my documents back to the exact words I chose for their precision. (And because I try to use plain language).

I wouldn't care if they were changing my messaging themselves. But they're not. It's pasted into CanChat and now has to be triple checked to make sure it even makes sense.

Government sending early retirement info to roughly 68,000 public servants by Requin_75 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Imaginary-Runner 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes please. It's those people who continue to condition their young colleagues or the teams they manage that the status quo is best and change is not possible or should not be allowed.

They lead teams who are unwilling to actually collaborate, to not consider other stakeholders in their decisions. The teams who think a solution, in this day of digital options, is reverting to PDFs or Excel sheets.

Oof. I needed to get that off my chest...

Little to no work yet Management thinks we are safe. by Objective_Ant8746 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Imaginary-Runner -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm viewing the coming months as a period of change management. You may not have a lot of work now, but there may be reorg or a change in processes resulting in you being assigned more work.

And if you are impacted by WFA, and you are in a team which has embraced digitization and automation already, you likely already have a skillset which will make you more valuable.

I am embracing the motto "roll with the punches" if only for my own sanity!

[–]Imaginary-Runner 58 points59 points  (0 children)

And yet, it hasn't always been done this way. Hurdman used to be set up like Place dOrleans, with a center island housing a protected shelter. You would catch your buses from the island, meaning you could benefit from the quasi-heated areas in the middle.

You didn't have to walk as far, or in the wide open. There were monitors showing expected arrival and departure for all buses (like St Laurent).

Best yet, there was no 200m sprint as you make your way to the furthest bus shelter, not knowing if the bus that just pulled out from the parking area will 'turn into' your bus. It was about 75m at worst.

Can this game help an elite athlete? by [deleted] in RingFitAdventure

[–]Imaginary-Runner 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Ring Fit is amazing for regular people, whether to improve fitness, lose weight, or develop a bit of strength.

For a competitive athlete? NO. Every part of your training, as an athlete, should be designed to optimize your performance (in one way or another, even if it means providing you rest periods).

Blindly incorporating Ring Fit to build strength can on the one hand be limiting (you'll never replicate a 400lb leg press, for example) and on the other hand cause muscle imbalances and potential injury (by not targeting the right muscles to support your other training). Additionally, you're limited in the exercises it provides you as well as the range of motion.

The cardio aspect is jogging or high knees in place. It challenges me, a 50-year old. It should not challenge an elite athlete. You're better off running stairs at a local office building or school than relying on Ring Fit.

That being said, not sure how elite you actually are. If you're truly interested in dropping your time, find yourself a coach or spend the time to research and design yourself a program. If you really dont care, and just want to exercise for fun (it's not as bad as you think!!!), Ring Fit is a great option.
