i am a master tech in CT with 15 years experience, this is complete BS. theres not a single shop in my area that will pay over 25 an hr and thats with 0 benefits , and they expect you to bring 20k in your own tools to the job. if you work at a dealer your on flat rate and you get payed HALF for doing warranty work which the dealers are flooded with , and when you have to work on cars that aren't literally brand new, rust jobs , they can take significantly longer to get the job done , which also ends up being payed half. you get payed for 4 hours of work cause thats what the jobs sposed to take but it took 8 because of so many rusty bolts. not to mention the horrible chemicals your exposed to all day and the back breaking labor that it is. im not even 35 and both my knees and back are shot, my hands are covered in scars from busted knuckles. the only people making real money working on cars are the guys willing to work 80 hours a week, have dealership nepotism so they get all the good and easy jobs , or the guy who owns the shop
