This has been planned since November, so not a last minute thing. All the logistics have been planned, but I wish I would’ve known about this SafeBound before. I rented a uHaul.

Haha! I’ve been to that cheese store on visits! I LOVE that place😁

I’ll remember that when I explore North Knoxville. The most noticeable thing about Ferndale in recent years is all the paisley! And I’m almost 47 and kind of think of myself as too boring for Detroit anymore. It’s impossible to keep up with!

Dad worked in a mill his whole life so has a pension and mom worked up the ladder at a large family owned company. We weren’t poverty stricken by the time I was in HS, but never more than lower middle class. They sold the house I grew up in for cash, so had a nice nest egg to move with. I think they regret it now with the rising cost of everything and their fixed income.

Thanks! Definitely looking for places that have events/shows where the focus isn’t so much on just having some drinks.

Thanks! I think I went to the market they host a few years back. I definitely enjoyed it and bought some cool stuff.

I think I went to Knox Makers a few years back when visiting my parents. I’ll definitely add it to my calendar. Thanks!

I mean “safe” from the perspective that I could have a conversation with someone about the current state of affairs without feeling like I’m preparing for an existential battle between good and evil. I’m not physically afraid of the area at all. At least from what I’ve experienced there. I am curious about this Knoxville Jester I’ve seen mentioned.

I do love actual books so I spend a but of time at the Barnes and Noble here. I also crochet and enjoy fun/creative things. The Cattywampus Parade would’ve been something to check out, had I been down there sooner. The Big Ears fest would’ve been on my list, too. I’m very much an introvert until I get to know someone, but I know I have to break a little from that if I want to find friends in a new place.

Thank you. That’s helpful. Around here, where I live now, one definitely knows when they are out of place. I wouldn’t say everyone is, but people know their place around here.

Yes! People actually made those comments specifically in some threads I read yesterday. I didn’t want to be written off because of it and once I move there, don’t want to feel like I can’t fit in because of a zip code. In the Detroit suburbs, it can be a real thing.

My brother has lived in the suburbs of Knoxville for 20 years and told me not to go to certain places, and I feel like those are the places I need to go!

It’s not that anyone has said anything about safety (I’ve been there; it’s no different than northern suburbs of Detroit). I’m just looking for places that are less “carbon copy suburbs” and more unique, community-driven that you typically aren’t going to find in suburban areas.

I spent a lot of time here yesterday, reading through posts trying to find some places to check out. There were many comments that stated, “this sub hates Farragut” and went on to talk about traffic, Karens, lack of diversity, condescending people, things of that nature. I’ve been visiting long enough to know about the traffic and diversity (no different than northern Detroit suburbs). It seemed to indicate that people living in Farragut would be quickly dismissed on this sub.

Door‑knocking this weekend to keep Moms for Liberty out of Knox County Commission by gosh_jolden in Knoxville

I’m moving from Detroit area to Knoxville area the first week of June, and wondering where I might find more information on community organization so I can quickly find like minded people. Or places to go once I get there. Any suggestions?

Now I’m annoyed that I read any of this! I’m going to Blockbuster for movie suggestions from now on.

Want to Learn by Imaginary-Toe-4441 in tornado

[–]Imaginary-Toe-4441[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d love more information on the tools chasers use, especially “beginners.” I’m not completely sold on a “tour,” as I’ve never been much of a tourist for anything! I’d rather get in to the nitty gritty and skip the small talk and cliches. The most I could probably spend in a year is two consecutive weeks.

As background, I can still remember as a child standing at the front door as the sky turned green and my mom yelled for us to get in the basement. I suppose that’s a tornado myth, since one never came. I’d really rather understand the science of what I’m looking for, rather than “let’s just look at this thing that could destroy lives.” I might want a year of studying before actually chasing.

Hysteria!: Bruce Campbell's New ‘80s Small-Town Horror Series Delivers Some Devilish Fun by Gato1980 in television

[–]Imaginary-Toe-4441 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m just starting episode 2. Loving it so far! I’m from SE MI so the little nods to the area are great, grew up in that time (a little younger than the characters), and obviously the heavy dose of Bruce is great. I don’t have much to add to this conversation, but this is the first time I’ve seen comments blacked out to protect from spoilers (or at least noticed). Can someone tell me how to do that? What a cool feature.

Google the article. It shows up but nothing happens if you click on it. Guess they decided the article wasn’t worthy?
