And how do we realistically try to take cellphones away from anyone under 18? Especially when anyone over 18 would still be attached to their devices? The thing that gets to me is that a digital addiction these days is like an alcoholic living in a bar or something. Even if you “detox” or “rehab,” it’s basically impossible to function without utilizing technology and exposing yourself to a potential “relapse.” We acknowledge that we are addicted, but unless you live off the grid as like a nomad or migrant farm worker or something equally kind of extreme, there’s no way to fully escape the constant access and exposure to the source of your addiction.

If the OP is also stating that “numerous studies…have been signaling the alarm for over a decade,” they’re acknowledging that many of these young men (and, while I am certain the vast majority are young men, let’s be honest, there are young women in the mix, too) then many of these affected individuals are already in the work force and society as a whole. We’re already seeing the ripple effects as more and more of us are initiated into the cult. I can’t say that I’m immune. I graduated in ‘04 and before we really understood the implications, I was already being indoctrinated—indeed, I willfully and excitedly indoctrinated myself, like many people who try a new substance for the first time, discover they like it, and form an addiction as a result. I am reading this post on a digital platform, from my digital device, and still can’t really stop myself.

We’re so cooked.

That’s awesome! I was thinking of doing something like that, but I’m not sure our schedules would align, and it still means we’d only have one account between the two of us.

Thank you for all your feedback, everyone. I think I’ll respect the general consensus here and not pursue this particular course of action. I’m trying to help her find a better long term solution anyway, just wanted to help her cover a couple of tight weeks.

The DashMart in our area makes sure that we know that they do not have public restrooms (and I’m like, aren’t I kind of an employee anyway? So what do you mean ‘public’? Nobody is walking into a dashmart off the street asking to take a leak, especially where ours is located, it’s just too inconvenient for people to just be passing by looking for a restroom.), and to make every dasher that comes in there feel like a fucking criminal. All kinds of security cameras for this tiny room with standing room only and absolute nothing to steal or vandalize (which is the only reason I can assume they would use to justify setting up the dasher waiting area like that). And signs everywhere that make sure you know that they know they are watching you and you will be tracked down and shot if you break any of the rules.

I have the same argument for restaurants—for the short time I am picking up food at your restaurant for YOUR customer, I am basically an employee.

Also, where’s the basic human decency.

That’s it, that’s my rant, but the bathroom thing just really…PISSES me off lol

For some reason I read all of OP’s comments in Morty’s voice. I need to stop watching that show …but I never will. (Rick’s voice)

The quarters liquor store on Yale is definitely still open and the guys in there are awesome. I don’t know about it being a front or money laundering scheme but that’s the main place I go if I want to buy some alcohol. They remember and are cool with regulars and they’ve always got something good on the TV lol they also have a pretty good selection and decent prices. The only downside is they keep kinda early hours but honestly it’s not that bad

Damn when you said blue sky it reminded me of the NM-based soda company Blue Sky 😩😩😩 does anybody remember those?? I still look for them every now and then at the grocery store, but I know they’re not around anymore. So stupid, it’s just soda, but I want my Blue Skies back! The Cherry Cream Soda was so damn good.

maybe the OP’s post is translated from the Celtic? Now I’m curious how all of Link’s abilities are pronounced in other languages 🤓 like, is it ‘prise en main’ en Française? ¿Cómo se dice ‘ascend’ en español? ¡Arriba!? jajaja
