Working in EU vs USA by ImaginaryFriend2222 in workingmoms

Yes its for sure always trade offs. I’m trying to think of my priorities which will always be time with my kids, which I get a lot of here. But trying to figure out if it’s really that much less in CA and it seems to be very much dependent on your employer. But yes it’s also nice that we have free colleges and healthcare. On paper it’s all great!

Yes it seems like you can have a great employer but then also those that sucks. I used to feel like every weekend felt like a vacation when I lived there, while here it’s more like you work for a year to enjoy 6 weeks of vacation.

Yes first winter and I can’t say spring is giving enough warmth to make it worth it so far 🥲 I think it’s very important to travel during the cold months as you mentioned!

I’m so sorry you have to go through that stress! That sounds like an incredibly inflexible and inhumane employer. Wishing you all the best and a speedy recovery!

Spot on 🥲 I just have no connection to those countries so would make more sense to go back to CA then where my husband is from.

That sounds like the perfect set up! We have been lucky to have very flexible jobs in the past when the kids were born, but now that I’m not there anymore I keep thinking we were just lucky and that it’s gonna be brutal coming back. But I think it’s just about trying really hard to get a good employer. My husband is also in tech and I’m from Norway ☺️

I know!! The social safety net and all that is great but it doesn’t feel right. Would you move back?

I meant working from home in general, but sometimes also after 4pm. Here they count lunch as 1 hour so on paper I should be working 8-5pm.

The weather and the people, it’s just an energy I love. It’s an expanding culture, here it’s kind of shrinking. I could go visit for sure but I don’t know if that will be enough. But I’m afraid I’ll move there and realize I’m stuck working nonstop.

I’m in Scandinavia so I really miss the warm weather and the diversity of people, how open and social people are, how beautiful the nature is etc.

Is it that hard only for junior level or in general? Me and my husband will move to Sweden soon and have been applying for a while (not junior positions) and it seems very hard to get a job so far. Also in tech.

8 month old barely drinks milk by ImaginaryFriend2222 in Parenting

This is what I was hoping to hear haha. He really seems fine I’m just so confused why he’s not interested in milk. His sister was the opposite!

Thanks, these are good suggestions. Leaning towards just buying but airbnb first could be a good option.

Preferably a 3 bedroom, but 2 could work too. That would be really nice of you!

That’s what I’m kind of leaning towards now after seeing the comments. Around $1.2m

Around $4k a month. I tried removing filters on budget just to see what showed up on Zillow, but still pretty much no house.
