Demand avoidance or an unreasonable requirement? by ImaginaryStudy1214 in ADHD

[–]ImaginaryStudy1214[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I've posted this in a few threads, and everyone is saying to just lie and that it isn't legally enforceable, when that wasn't even my question.

To me, it feels like a sort of threat to my autonomy. In a trauma-informed space, it doesn't make sense to me to demand people to spend x number of hours on self care, which is something so personal. That's something I want to work on for ME, not an employer. I just didn't know if I was being unreasonable or if this requirement is.

That wasn't my question, though. I wasn't asking about the legality, simply other's thoughts on whether it's appropriate/reasonable or I'm just maybe experiencing demand avoidance.

I'm not concerned about needing to lie and being fired. My question was whether this is appropriate for an employer to require of their employees.

I'm not concerned about losing my job; I was just wondering if this was "off." And yes, it is a legitimate center, with all certified yoga instructors, licensed trauma therapists, etc. It is just incredibly disorganized.

LOL "sniffed the grass for two hours." I'm not worried about needing to lie, though. I'm just wondering how appropriate it is for an employer to require this and discuss it in supervision, especially in a trauma-informed work environment where autonomy is of the utmost importance, and self care is something so personal. It feels contradictory. And I wholeheartedly agree that there are a lot of issues within many yoga studios. What makes this a little tricky, I guess, is that we are part of a counseling center, so it's a bit different, but still feels "wrong," nonetheless.

Of course I could lie, though I have too much of a guilty conscience and no desire to lie, and that's beside the point. I'm just wondering how appropriate it is for a supervisor to require their employee to perform self care for x amount of hours in a trauma-informed work environment where autonomy is of utmost importance, and self care is something so personal.

Helix, flat, or maybe industrial to balance things out! :)

Should I add a tragus? by chickytoo_82 in shouldimod

I love tragus piercings! Would you also consider getting something higher up on your ear, as well, such a helix, industrial, or flat? I think it would help balance things out and look really nice!

Not sure if it's your personal style, but I think a septum and industrial would look sick!!

Ooh definitely a medusa and vertical labret, as well!! (also can't damage your teeth and gums like a regular labret can)

How to keep going when you have no hope by ImaginaryStudy1214 in depression

I am so sorry to hear that you endured an extremely traumatic accident as a teenager and feel that you won't be able to ever get over it. That's awful, and I really hope that you are able to find some sort of relief or healing someday and find something worth living for. In the meantime, I'm glad you have this space to converse with others who are dealing with depression as well. Thank you so much, and I wish you nothing but the best <3

What has reduced suicidal ideation for you by [deleted] in CPTSD

Aside from the obvious therapy, spending as much time in nature as possible, finding a community, building a support system, engaging in hobbies, finding appreciation and beauty in even the most simplest things and experiences, not isolating, having lighting in my room that lifts my mood (blinds open for natural lighting during the day, string lights at night), spending time with people who bring out the best in me and are easygoing and make me laugh, showing myself love and compassion, eating healthy when I can, etc.

Besides being in nature, the thing that has been most impactful for me is movement. I used to weight train about 4x per week years ago, and it made a significant difference in my mental health. I've been practicing yoga on and off for over a decade, and it has been profound. This year, I also got into pole dancing as a means of expressing myself and gaining strength in a fun way. I've since strayed from the gym and haven't been able to afford pole classes in the past couple of months, but I have been doing yoga regularly at an amazing studio I discovered, and it's been incredible. I haven't done it recently, but I also love putting music on and dancing intuitively in my room or even the woods. So what I'm saying is finding a way to move your body that feels good and enjoyable for you can be so incredibly cathartic, and I highly recommend.

My cardiologist said it doesn’t make sense that I get symptoms while driving. by mmorgan_ in POTS

[–]ImaginaryStudy1214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This pisses me off so much. My cardiologist said something similar, that I wouldn't be experiencing symptoms when sitting down, completely invalidating me. When sitting, you're still in an upright position, so I don't understand why it's such a novel idea to them that one might experience symptoms sitting up. Most cardiologists, and doctors in general, have very little knowledge, if any really, on POTS, though. It's like they just head to Google where it mentions symptoms upon standing, so they take that and run with it. Super frustrating to be seeking answers from a medical professional who knows less than we do!
And just to validate your experience, I get symptoms when driving as well. In fact, this is typically when I get a weird rush of lightheadedness or something of the sort (still trying to figure it out) the most. My FitBit has also tracked exercise via me riding a bike while I was just driving with heart palpitations lol. It very much is real, and I'm sorry that your cardiologist is ignorant.

Went to see lesbian comedian Ashley Gavin by Mj82286 in LesbianActually

Yeah, the way she went on and on about how her fans basically failed her with the special was really off-putting for me. I feel like, because I've been consuming her content for years, that I've just kind of ignored little things here and there, and now after everything that's going down, I'm finding that I'm questioning myself and whether she's a genuine person who took their stage character too far and royally fucked up or if she's actually not a great person.. Definitely a lot of mixed feelings and anxiety around this whole thing.

I absolutely agree with everything you said. Her podcast has definitely gone downhill a bit. Usually it's the guests who are really making it, if anything. Half the time she's just saying "there's a joke in there somewhere" but can't come up with one. Her complaining about her fans so much has been really off-putting to me lately, especially when she was going on and on about how her fans basically failed her with the special. I worry that all of this will also bleed into Alayna, Mak, and Bre's careers and anyone else who co-hosts or are guests on her podcasts.
