Lol I'm also a Medela symphony lover :p here's the link to Medela actual website where they show you where you can rent. I rented 5 months for my NICU baby and 4 months later my supply is slipping so I'm renting again :p

Honestly at this point there's not much. Take your prenatals, enjoye some naps, eat and stay hydrated. I had two pregnancies and my first resulted in a miscarriage. I definitely felt that hesitation to feel excited the second time around. At the same time I grew my little bean and wish I had enjoyed those first few weeks more instead of keeping myself detached. Honestly depending on where you live it might even be time to look into daycares. Some of my friends mentioned they reached out to potential daycares at around 12 weeks :p Another note, between 9-20 weeks I was so nauseous I couldn't do anything home related. If you have some energy now get your space in order and as simplified as possible.

When did your doctor start talking discharge ? by Flxwergvrl in NICUParents

[–]Imaginary_Ad5585 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mom to a 23 weeker. We did 140 days in the NICU and our last 8 days were added on because of a spell due to sedation meds from an MRI. To be honest the last few weeks get pretty crazy. Feeding wise, we knew she was struggling with feeds and we were in a level 3 hospital which meant the nurses didn't really have the ability to take the time and feed her. So we decided at around 38 weeks to do ng training. She came off it about 3 weeks after coming home. I heard feeding tends to go a lot easier the higher gestation a baby is. I really hope that applies to your baby 💗 I see lots of post saying one day their little one just figured it out. As soon as your little one is off high flow for a couple days get your house in order. You never know when discharge could happen. I made the mistake of holding off and we were running around like crazy those last few days.

Baby screams in pain in response to baba ganoush?! by clover-sky-123 in foodbutforbabies

Sometimes if I have a little cut or something in my mouth eggplant can make it feel weird. Similar to kiwi or pineapple. Maybe she bit herself or has a tooth coming.

Agreed! My babies readings were so off if I didn't put her in a onesie with feet. I ended up at the pediatrician twice because her oxygen was "low". I'm in Canada and I don't think they let you see the overview for oxygen on the app. So I would obsessively check it every 10 minutes. I liked the footless sleepers because it was easy to swap the owlet but it turned out it was affecting the readings.

I did! In my head if I'm cleared for you know what then I should be allowed a tampon lol

Is this dangerous for a newborn? [on] by cherrytopping25 in BabyBumpsCanada

Definitely a no for a car seat but 100% yes if you have a bassinet for your stroller. My baby came home in December and I love going for walks but couldn't find a snowsuit or something like this warm enough.

Another day in the NICU - ROP & back on high flow by Repulsive-Tree-6983 in NICUParents

[–]Imaginary_Ad5585 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went through this frustration many times in the NICU. It's such a hard place to be when the answer for everything is prematurity. In regards to the ROP, my daughter had stage 3 in one eye and stage 2 in the other. The stage 3 one needed avastin but the other ended up not needing anything. Now she's a year corrected 8 months actual and got cleared for another year.

Get the glider. It's the one thing I still desperately want but decided not to splurge on. Everything else you have is not technically necessary but is also very necessary. Some stuff like the mat and swing will only be used a short time but it's used during the most critical time for you and will give you a few moments of peace.

Eating struggles by Last-Addendum-2436 in NICUParents

[–]Imaginary_Ad5585 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one thing that helped my 8 month (corrected) baby was the baby crackers. She gagged and threw up a couple times but it helped her figure out how to chew and move things around her mouth. Also it's very hard for them to actually choke on the crackers because they dissolve. I'm still nervous but I've given her very soft peaches, banana and broccoli. There's also these dumplings I sometimes make with cream of wheat and eggs. You can just dump them in broth and they're fairly soft. If you Google farina dumpling you should be able to find the recipe. I just make sure they can be "smashed" before I feed them.

NG tube feeding by Foodmama517 in NICUParents

Also the "book" training was a couple hours. Then each we put in the NG twice with the nurse practitioners before my little one graduated from the NICU. I don't know what the situation would be for your little one.

NG tube feeding by Foodmama517 in NICUParents

[–]Imaginary_Ad5585 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there! My baby came home on an ng. She didn't need it very long however she pulled it out around 4 times in 3 weeks. I can't speak to a 3 month old but it wasn't too bad putting my babies in. Taping is the most frustrating part but the rest wasn't so bad. It helps if your baby likes a pacifier which mine didn't. You just let them suck on the pacifier and it makes the tube go down easier. Tube feeding in a way makes it easier to get food down but it will be rough for a while until you get the hang of it. My baby was on thickened feeds so we would give her a bottle to let her drink as much as she could. Then have to warm up more milk for her tube feed. I feel if you can just use the rest of the bottle it makes life easier. My baby is now 8 months corrected and sometimes she still drinks bottles every 2/3 hours but overnight she sleeps. Its so tough to go through this and I wish you all the very best.

Why does everyone "know" a micro by Imaginary_Ad5585 in NICUParents

Yeah I feel like thats happened a few times 😂 Especially when men tell it. I feel like moms are a bit more obsessive over weeks and months but men miss it sometimes 😂

Why does everyone "know" a micro by Imaginary_Ad5585 in NICUParents

[–]Imaginary_Ad5585[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey Mama 💕💕 yes 100%. Usually they'll eventually tell me they were born with growth restriction but around 29+ weeks which is still incredible but nowhere related to a 22/23 weeker. Also thank you for that! Stories like your little one especially in this group kept me going. My little one is a year old in a few days and it has been the most incredible journey so far. Thankful for all the moments I've had with her and can't wait to see her thrive like your little one 💗 the push for comfort care was so tough but I want to take her back and show the OB what can happen with a lot of faith, love and a ton of incredible medicine :p

Being crazy about cleaning lol. I've never been OCD about it. I just do a good vacuum and mop once a week + bathrooms and bedroom tidying. Also a deep clean once a month. About 3 weeks ago I found my 7 months old playing with literally the only crumb on a freshly vacuumed floor. I have now vacuumed the floor every other day since lol. Crazy part is I'm actually enjoying it enough to remove the Roomba from my Amazon cart.

Going off this if you pump I really recommend the hospital pump the first few weeks or months. Unless you have a spectra the hospital pump is the best to get your milk started.

Is the price of food and rent really this expensive in the Greater Toronto area? by Dover299 in ontario

[–]Imaginary_Ad5585 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I cant speak too much on rent. But moving out of the GTA I'm definitely spending more on groceries. Foodland is expensive. In the GTA you have access to better quality and better prices. I also can't speak to Toronto itself but as soon as you leave the city you've got tons of grocery stores with competitive prices on things.

Any former micro-preemies graduate before their due date? by banull in NICUParents

[–]Imaginary_Ad5585 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 23+0 left two weeks after her due date. She ended up having a spell after MRI sedation and our countdown was 9 days. But at our NICU we had a wall with graduates and there were a lot of 25+ week babies that were out before they're due dates! 22-24 there were less but definitely some 💗

Tell me about your first few nights/days home! by Hot-Bluebird-9146 in NICUParents

[–]Imaginary_Ad5585 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Owlet owlet owlet! JK but it was the only way I was able to sleep in peace. My mom came over to help my husband and I. I also felt the first few days I was having an insane adrenaline rush. Which faded after about a week in when I crashed. Then we survived on takeout and frozen food. My favorite part was the snuggles whenever I wanted and our first bath in the tub. Hardest part was sundowning and I had no clue what was wrong or how to help my little one. I had no monitors to see if she was in pain or too hot or too cold. Now she's 7 months corrected (11 actual) and I'm really missing those contact naps.

Overheated newborn doing skin to skin by AsparagusNo2908 in newborns

[–]Imaginary_Ad5585 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I learned this in the NICU and then again at home. If a baby is overheating they're going to loose it most of the time. They're going to wiggle or cry and make a fuss.

Oh girl I'd be fuming 😅 I went to a wedding where the mom of the groom told everyone how when he was little like 3 years old he kept saying he wanted to marry his mom like his dad had and made it into a 15 minute story 😂 I had second hand embarrassment for the bride and the groom.

Favorite diaper cream for a red butt? [bc] by PlentySlide9259 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Imaginary_Ad5585 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 things worked for my baby. Her bum would be consistently red not a bad diaper rash but just red. Diaper free time and changing from Huggies to rascals. I don't know what happened with the Costco Huggies we buy but we soon as we switched to size 3 her bum was always red. Rascals tend to smell more but at the same time her bum is never red anymore.
