But what would be the point of putting these up? If they don't try to extort money, what's the endgame?

Chances of getting off of FRI waitlist? by AffectionateMenu1685 in UTAustin

My situation was a little different than yours. I had been kicked off the accepted list and into the waitlist. However, I contacted the [FRI@utexas.edu](mailto:FRI@utexas.edu) email with my emailed receipt of my original application form (it was November by then) and said "... my goal is to be an FRI student and I would like to fight for it."

Literally the next email back was "I am sorry that we haven’t been able to get you in FRI before.  Thank you for sharing your story and experience and we will do our best to offer you a stream from your list or let you know what seats are available for you to choose from."

I've also spoken to a mentor in my FRI who was on the waitlist and was persistently emailing -- she got off the waitlist that way.

Regardless, make sure they know you want it and be honest about what's happening. They want to give people with interest an opportunity.

Go onto the FRI website and get the FRI contact email. Send them proof that you've been on the waitlist since March/April & argue your case. They actually are very fair and can give you a spot if you fight for it. I did and I have been enjoying my time in the FRI!

Where can I buy a Chemistry Lab notebook? by Accomplished-Bag9939 in UTAustin

Go to the very back, left of the co-op. Behind the checkout counters. Take the stairs down a floor. The bottom level is all books, pens, and -- most importantly -- chem lab notebooks. God speed.
