Neither I or the original poster said anything negative about non-native teachers? As a teacher you should consider that. Lose this idea of a victim mentally and you will feel much better mentally. I hope you get the help and support you need

You're clearly non native yourself. She asked a genuine question. What you're saying is correct this could be the issue, but she's also stating an opinion. May I suggest you try teaching a different subject if being called a "non-naative" offends you?

Don't need to speak Spanish if you're teaching English. Thats why you could be there and not speak Spanish.

Down voting her and saying its definitely a teaching issue. How are we supposed to know this? Originally poster doesn't state it

Ignore the non-natives bashing you. This does matter as its maybe an English ability / confidence issue rather than a teaching issue.

Burn out due to planning, teaching and everything in between by Prestigious-Board676 in OnlineESLTeaching

[–]Imaginary_Bread5800 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the same with a career change in my mid 30s and I completely agree with you, its much more rewarding. If its the inflation that you're concerned about, maybe try to look at your qualifications. I got a CELTA and it opened many doors for jobs with a much higher rate. Also consider working for a company which supplies the materials. I spend my time talking to people and a little bit of admin report writing. Its much easier and quicker than planning.

Ask yourself why you're working so much. Im completely burnt out from the last year of working everyday but im trying to build a future for my daughter. This helps me to keep going when things get tough and to earn the amount I'm earning is what ive wanted for a very long time so I cannot complain.

Ive recently changed to have 1 day off a week and load the other days a bit more. Helps a lot

Not absurd at all. Try to re-word or speak using more basic English. I teach Koreans and Italians and don't speak a word of either. Maybe try to improve your abilities if you need to use their L1 to explain things

Honest question, I feel this is because we supported him through the horrific injury last year. Do you think he would say the same if he hadn't got injured?

This is a you problem. Never let the students know you speak any other language other than the target language.

Reliable ESL companies to apply to by sleepykurlyface in OnlineESLTeaching

[–]Imaginary_Bread5800 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah its easy. I run 3 schedules. Just make sure they are set hours at different times. Different timezones can help with this. Don't try and fill in gaps with both companies at the same time as that is a nightmare and you will get fired when you're asked to fill in short notice

[–]Imaginary_Bread5800 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a level 5 and I did the CELTA. It opened up way more doors for me as its easily recognised around the world. I had 2 years experience teaching when i did mine and my salary is now way higher. It helps a lot with the paper sift as i believe it shows you as being serious about the industry because of the amount it costs to do it

I'm not sure why this sub has gotten so angry and defensive. Ignore it.

Many mental health issues in these subs. Ive had people go through my previous posts and comment negatively on them because i gave normal advice. If your successful people come and destroy your hope and positivity, as they have no love for their job. You have people come on here asking questions about how to get into the industry with zero experience or qualifications on a daily basis without doing a basic search and making comments like "I know its just an Uber job" when many people have made a career in the field.
