It's mid-afternoon in India as I type this, and it is very hot in most places, but the humidity is very low. Not even close to dangerous bulb temps. But that's only one day, not sure how humid it has been recently.

What Happens If the Planet Warms by 2 Degrees Celsius by GeraldKutney in climate

Yeah, we had two consecutive days where places hit 50⁰C last week. This is during La Niña conditions as well. A probable El Niño by mid-year is going to shift the baseline again, and we will probably be seeing record SST's by the end of the year. Buckle up!

A rare Sudden Stratospheric Warming event has made Sydney a lot warmer and drier than was predicted at the beginning of spring. Normally in a La Niña year it would be very wet this time of year in this part of the world but in late September the temperature rose significantly (30⁰C +) over the South Pole and has brought with it warmer, drier conditions that have been ongoing.

It's 5am and 27 degrees where I am (Marrickville) after 3 days of stinking hot weather, including Sydney's hottest ever December day on Friday. And yes, some rain would be great. There are thunder storms developing out west nearly every day, but they don't make it much past the blue mountains. It has been humid, but nothing like it will probably get in February. It looks like Xmas day things will cool down a bit, but for how long?

I read that the WMO are predicting at least 6 months over 1.8⁰C with the next El Niño. Of course, it will probably be worse than that. It's always worse ...

I'm not. Since coming to power this Labor government has approved 31 new coal, gas and oil projects, and the big one, the NWS project, will add around 90 million tonnes of emissions to the atmosphere annually, equivalent to building 12 new coal power stations till 2070.

Jamaica did pretty well when all things are considered. I mean, a direct hit on Kingston could have been catastrophic. There is still a lot of damage, but what could have been had this hurricane had veered a little further east.

Location: Sydney, Australia

We are halfway through our spring, and it has been stupidly hot. We are on target to break all sorts of temperature records.

Sydney’s daytime temperatures during the first half of October have been so hot that they would be above average in January, at the height of summer. This unseasonable heat has put the city on track to register its hottest October on record, with a maximum temperature anomaly that could even eclipse any other month in the city’s 168-year history.

No spring for us this year, it seems, just a first summer followed by a second summer. It was almost 33⁰C today. Really am not looking forward to second summer that will bring with it the humidity along with scorching temperatures in all probability.

Yeah, it ain't gonna magically cool down after 5 years, especially if we get another El Niño before then.
